With no Golden Sixty involved, Excellent Proposal can deep-six his rivals Sunday at Sha Tin in the Group 3, $471,400 Lion Rock Trophy Handicap.
The featured seventh race on a 10-race card (first post 12:45 a.m. Eastern, with live video and wagering at DRFBets.com), the Lion Rock Trophy, a one-turn mile (1,600 meters) drew nine entrants, two more than the 2021 renewal. Mighty Giant is the starting highweight, carrying 133 pounds. The weights go all the way down to My Sugar at 114.
Sibaaq was a four-time winner in minor handicaps in England in 13 starts in 2020 and 2021. Now based in Australia with trainer Annabel Neasham, Sibaaq may be on the verge of a successful campaign in 2022.
After finishing a game second in his Australian debut in a seven-furlong handicap at Gold Coast Racecourse on May 7, Sibaaq will start favored in a field of 12 in Sunday’s Wellington Cup at 1 1/16 miles at Wellington Racecourse.
An outside post position does not seem to bother Equinox, the promising colt who starts in Sunday’s Grade 1 Japanese Derby at Tokyo Racecourse.
In the Grade 1 Japan 2000 Guineas at 1 1/4 miles on turf at Nakayama Racecourse last month, Equinox started from the outside in a field of 18 and rallied from seventh to finish second by a length to stablemate Geoglyph, his first loss in his third start.
In the $3.28 million Japanese Derby at 1 1/2 miles, Equinox has the same wide draw in a field of 18, and again is expected to pose a threat from the middle of the large field.

Wet weather in Brisbane, Australia, in the last week led to the postponement of the Group 1 Doomben Cup from May 21 to Wednesday, and finally to this Saturday.
The race has been moved from Doomben Racecourse to nearly Eagle Farm Racecourse and will be run at 1 5/16 miles instead of 1 1/4 miles. The Doomben Cup is part of 10-race program consisting entirely of stakes, including three Group 1 races.
The 8-year-old warrior Addeybb faces horses literally half his age making his 2022 debut Thursday at Sandown Park in England.
Addeybb, who suffered a life-threatening blood clot last fall, is one of six entrants in the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes over 1 1/4 miles. Also entered is Lord Glitters, who won the Group 2 Singspiel Stakes in Dubai earlier this year while making the second start of his 9-year-old season.

Tiny Inverell Racecourse in the Australian countryside has played a big role in the 2022 success of Buffet Buster.
On March 5, Buffet Buster won a seven-furlong handicap at Inverell to end a four-race losing streak. He followed with two rapid wins in sprint handicaps at Moree on March 15 and Grafton on March 22. The winning streak ended with a fourth-place finish against tougher competition at Tamworth on April 11, leading to a brief rest for the 3-year-old gelding.
