Australia: Eiger tries to stretch win streak to three in Wauchope Cup at Port Macquarie

In May, Eiger won consecutive races in a two-week span for the third time.

A winner of 8 of 26 starts, Eiger has never won three straight races, but has an excellent chance to do so when he starts favored in Sunday’s Wauchope Cup at 7 1/2 furlongs at Port Macquarie Racecourse on the Australian east coast.

Australia: Vinco cuts back for Eye Liner Stakes

The resilient gelding Vinco started 31 times before he won his first stakes in the listed Spear Chief Stakes at 7 1/2 furlongs at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Australia on June 4.

The win equaled the longest victory of his career, but was arguably not at his best distance. Vinco has won six races at distances of 6 1/2 to seven furlongs since his debut in early 2019, making his appearance in Saturday’s $140,900 Eye Liner Stakes at 6 3/4 furlongs at Ipswich Racecourse near Brisbane appear to be an ideal trip.

Kyprios resolute in Ascot Gold Cup, holds Mojo Star and Stradivarius at bay

Megan Ridgwell
Kyprios improved his record to 5 for 7 while giving Aidan O'Brien a record eighth win in the 2 1/2-mile Ascot Gold Cup.

Two colts half his age - Kyprios and Mojo Star - kept the popular 8-year-old Stradivarius from a record-equaling fourth career win in Thursday’s Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in England.

Kyprios ($4.30) held off a late threat from 8-1 Mojo Star to win the historic race at 2 1/2 miles by a half-length. Mojo Star finished three-quarters of a length in front of 2-1 Stradivarius in a field of nine.

All three had chances to win through the stretch.

Royal Ascot: Campanelle goes for royal triple in loaded Platinum Jubilee

Megan Ridgwell/Racenews Photo
Campanelle (left) finished second in the Group 1 Commonwealth in June at Royal Ascot, but was awarded the win via DQ.

Campanelle was a Group 2 stakes winner at Royal Ascot in England in her first start abroad in 2020, and even better last year when she beat males in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup for 3-year-old sprinters at the same prestigious meeting.

Those wins would be career-defining performances for many horses. The American-based Campanelle has a chance for even greater glory in Saturday’s Group 1 Platinum Jubilee for sprinters at Royal Ascot.
