Australia: Father's Day seeking fourth straight win

Father’s Day has largely run the same race three times since late August while compiling a winning streak in Australia.

The wins have been at narrow distances of a head, a half-length, and a head, with Father’s Day closing from off the pace to reach the front just in time. Each race has been slightly longer, including a win at 1 5/16 miles at Warwick Farm Racecourse on Sept. 14.

Australia: Stuck With You likely favorite in Lismore Cup

Five days later than scheduled, the Lismore Cup will be run at Grafton Racecourse in Australia on Monday evening across American time zones with the principal runners in a field of 12 still in the lineup.

The Lismore Cup was scheduled for last week at Lismore, but was lost to wet weather.

Stuck With You, the 9-5 favorite in early betting on Sunday, is likely to set the pace and is well suited to the Lismore Cup distance of 1 5/16 miles.

The Foxes sprints home in slow-paced Royal Lodge Stakes

Eclipse Sportswire
The Foxes, ridden by David Probert, wins the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket Racecourse.

The Foxes finished fastest to post a 6-1 upset in a farcically slow-paced renewal of the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes on Saturday at Newmarket Racecourse in England.

The one-mile, straight course Royal Lodge is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series, but post-race there was more talk of The Foxes being a 2023 Derby horse than a candidate to travel to Keeneland this fall for the BC Juvenile Turf.

Australia: Dangers finds softer spot in Swan Hill handicap

Dangers, the Australian 4-year-old gelding, is unlucky not to have two or three wins in his 11-race career.

Dangers was beaten a head in consecutive handicaps at Sale Racecourse in July and August and was sixth after a wide trip at the same venue in a one-mile handicap on Sept. 11.

Trained by Shea Eden, Dangers is being sent to a new venue for his next start, a handicap at a mile against a slightly easier field at Swan Hill Racecourse on Sunday evening across American time zones.

Australia: Zaaki looks for repeat in Underwood Stakes

Zaaki finished in front of I’m Thunderstruck in two of Australia’s leading races in March and April, but there was not much between them in early betting for the Group 1 Underwood Stakes at 1 1/8 miles at Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne on Saturday evening across American time zones.

Zaaki, who won the 2021 Underwood, was 8-5 as of Friday, while I’m Thunderstruck was 2-1 in a strong field of six.

Rebel's Romance brings three-race winning streak into Preis von Europa at Cologne

Emily Shields
Rebel's Romance might target the Breeders' Cup Turf with a victory in the Preis von Europa at Cologne on Sunday.

One horse with designs on the Breeders’ Cup Turf and another whose most recent start came in the Breeders’ Cup Turf are among seven entered in the Group 1 Preis von Europa on Sunday at Cologne Racecourse in Germany.

Rebel’s Romance, trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin, could punch his ticket to the BC Turf at Keeneland if he runs his winning streak to four in the Preis von Europa. Four-year-old Rebel’s Romance didn’t race on turf until his eighth start, having made his first seven starts on all-weather tracks in England and dirt tracks in the Middle East.

Australia: Jacquinot seeks first Grade 1 in Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill Gardens

A five-month layoff was no hindrance for the Australian colt Jacquinot last month.

Jacquinot was sixth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes for 2-year-olds in March and won the first start of his comeback in the Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne on Aug. 27. He closed from ninth of 13 to win the stakes at six furlongs.

The win has put Jacquinot in contention for his first Group 1 win in the Golden Rose Stakes for 3-year-olds at seven furlongs at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney on Friday.

Juvenile stakes at Newmarket could produce Breeders' Cup runners

Scoopdyga Photography/Longchamp
It appears Torquator Tasso will not get in preferred ground in his defense of the Arc de Triomphe next Sunday.

The focus is on 2-year-old racing at Newmarket Racecourse in England this Friday and Saturday, but the juvenile stakes included in the Breeders’ Cup Challenge series are not the most important races during the two days.
