Japan: Liberty Island up in time in Japanese 1000 Guineas

Liberty Island ended her 2-year-old season in December with a win in the Grade 1 Juvenile Fillies in Japan, a victory that led to her being the unanimous choice for champion filly of 2022.

Liberty Island’s status is unchanged. She remains the division leader in Japan. On Sunday, Liberty Island won the Grade 1 Japanese 1000 Guineas for fillies at a mile at Hanshin Racecourse.

Australia: Bean Rocking takes on winners in Armidale handicap

With race experience, Bean Rocking has developed a rollicking turn of foot that led to a win against maidens at 5 1/2 furlongs at Armidale Racecourse in Australia last month.

Bean Rocking’s closing style will be tested in his debut against winners in a five-furlong handicap for nonwinners of two at Armidale on Monday evening.

Trained by Stirling Osland, who is based at Armidale, Bean Rocking is part of a field of 12 and will break from post 6 under jockey Brooke Stower, who has been aboard for the 4-year-old gelding’s last three starts.

Australia: You Are King at proper level in handicap at Nowra Racecourse

A trip to a big city track was too tough for the Australian gelding You Are King earlier this year.

After finishing in the top three in five starts in December and January at smaller venues, You Are King was 10th of 12 in a lucrative handicap at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney on Feb. 11, one of the country’s leading tracks.

Two months later, You Are King is back at a countryside track, and very much in contention, in a seven-furlong handicap at Nowra Racecourse on Saturday evening.

Australia: Class drop may put Stratum Pride over the top at Canberra

A sharp drop in class may help the 4-year-old Australian filly Stratum Pride end a four-race losing streak in a competitive handicap going a mile at Canberra Racecourse on Thursday evening.

Stratum Pride is a winner of 3 of 19 starts, but is winless in four appearances at Canberra where she is based with trainer Keith Dryden.

Stratum Pride has been second or third in three of those starts at Canberra, including a third in a tougher class of handicap runners on March 13. In that one-mile race, Stratum Pride closed from fifth to lose by 1 1/2 lengths as the 2-1 favorite.
