Wins have been scarce for the Irish-bred gelding Numerian since a victory in the Group 2 Q22 Stakes in Australia in June 2022.

Numerian is winless in his last nine starts, including a narrow loss by slightly less than a half-length in the Group 1 Doomben Cup on May 20. More recently, Numerian was fifth in the Q22 Stakes on June 10.

Those losses against tough company have left the 7-year-old favored to end his losing streak in the $137,480 Ipswich Cup at about 1 5/16 miles at Ipswich Racecourse near Brisbane on Friday evening.

He is by the legendary Japanese stallion Deep Impact and is out of Admire Pink, a two-time winner who was stakes-placed in Japan.

By any measure, Bokuden, the Australian-bred 3-year-old colt, has an outstanding pedigree. His race record may match those expectations this year.

Bokuden won his 2023 debut in a six-furlong maiden race for males at Kembla Grange Racecourse in Australia on May 27 and will have his second start of the year in a handicap at 6 3/4 furlongs at Wyong Racecourse on Thursday evening.

It will be fascinating to witness the re-match between Luxembourg and BAY BRIDGE in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, only 1/2 length separated them in the Tattersalls Gold Cup with the runner-up not enjoying much luck in running. Despite the hard luck story, it was near career best and I'll be backing Sir Michael Stoute's colt to turn the tables.
