Warm Heart uses Yorkshire Oaks as warm-up for Breeders' Cup

Many international races that are part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series produce winners that are 100-1 shots to even consider coming to America, but Warm Heart is an obvious candidate for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf after capturing the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks on Thursday at York Racecourse in England.

Ground might not suit top echelon in Yorkshire Oaks

Two-time Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Enable won the Yorkshire Oaks in 2017 and 2019, while ill-fated but top-class Sea of Class took down the 2018 renewal. Alipinista won the race in 2022 on the way to Arc glory. This year’s renewal of the Group 1 fixture comes Thursday at York Racecourse in England, and there is nothing approaching the level of any of those horses entered in the 1 1/2-mile race.

Australia: Murwillumbah Cup an important race for Battleton

Chances are dwindling for the Australian gelding Battleton to gain a berth in the $1.9 million Big Dance Stakes at a mile at Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney on Nov. 7.

Horses gain consideration for berths in the Big Dance Stakes with top two finishes in a series of qualifying races in the preceding year. Goodwood Racecourse

The fabulous 3-year-old Paddington will have but three rivals when he tries for his eighth straight win Wednesday in the Group 1 International Stakes at York Racecourse.

An injury to star-crossed 2022 Derby winner Desert Crown this past weekend and the withdrawal Monday of several other early entrants for the about 1 5/16-mile fixture left only Mostahdaf, the filly Nashwa, and longshot The Foxes to face Paddington.
