Equinox looms heavy favorite in large Japan Cup field

Dubai Racing Club
Equinox wins the Group 1 Sheema Classic in Dubai in March by 3 1/2 lengths.

Equinox, who will be a heavy favorite to win Sunday’s Grade 1 Japan Cup at Tokyo Racecourse, is not a perfect racehorse. He has been beaten, most recently when second in the Grade 1 Japanese Derby in 2022.

It’s what Equinox has done since then on a global basis that has left him widely considered the world’s leading runner. Equinox has won five consecutive races, a streak consisting of four victories in Grade 1 races in Japan and the Group 1 Sheema Classic in Dubai in March.

Australia: Osipenko gets class relief but draws outside in Gong Stakes

After losses in four consecutive Group 1 races in Australia from mid-August to early October, Osipenko has been entered in the $650,500 Gong Stakes, a handicap at a mile at Kembla Grange Racecourse on Friday evening.

The class relief will help Osipenko, provided he is not burdened by traffic issues in a field of 16. Osipenko will need a favorable trip from post 10 to win for the fourth time in his 14th start.

Australia: Arrabbiata a perfect fit at Muswellbrook

The distance is ideal. The post position is a perfect fit. The competition lacks significant depth.

Several factors are in the  favor of Arrabbiata in a handicap for fillies and mares at 7 1/4 furlongs at Muswellbrook Racecourse in Australia on Thursday evening.

Arrabbiata tends to run near the front and will start from post 5 in a field of eight. A 4-year-old filly, Arrabbiata led throughout a maiden race at 7 1/4 furlongs at Quirindi Racecourse in May.

Vincent Ho returns with a double to fan LONGINES IJC aspirations

Hong Kong Jockey Club
Vincent Ho made a triumphant return after suspension.
By Leo Schlink

Vincent Ho boosted hopes of LONGINES International Jockeys’ Championship (IJC) participation next month with a double at Happy Valley on Wednesday night (15 November) as Pierre Ng maintained a blistering start to the season with a brace.

With three positions left in the star-studded 12-rider LONGINES IJC line-up at Happy Valley on 6 December, Ho is strongly placed to clinch the berth reserved for the leading home-grown rider at the completion of next Wednesday’s (22 November) meeting at Happy Valley.
