Jockeys' Guild members clash with former leaders

Members of the Jockeys' Guild who were trying to gain access to the group's offices in Monrovia, Calif., on Tuesday afternoon scuffled with the group's former chief executive, L. Wayne Gertmenian, and former chief operating officer, Albert Fiss, during a brief confrontation shortly after Gertmenian's employment was terminated, according to several witness.

NYRA ordered to remove paintings from auction

The New York State Racing and Wagering Board has sent a letter to the New York Racing Association demanding that the association remove 19 paintings from an auction scheduled for Dec. 2, according to a copy of the letter released by the board.

KEEP drafts casino plan

The Kentucky Equine Education Project, a horseracing advocacy group, plans to ask the state legislature to approve a casino-gambling plan that would give the racing industry 64 percent of the revenue from legalized casinos at state racetracks, or nearly $800 million a year.

The revenue splits for the racing industry were provided by Jim Navolio, KEEP's executive director, on Wednesday, one day after KEEP released a statement saying its plan for casinos at all licensed racetracks would give the state a 35 percent share of the revenue.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A newly appointed board of directors of the Jockeys' Guild voted on Tuesday to fire the guild's controversial chief executive, L. Wayne Gertmenian, and his management company, Matrix Capital Associates, effective immediately, according to a statement issued by the board.
