Sanan: Dispute led to Curlin sale

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A disagreement over whether to sell Breeders' Cup Classic winner and probable Horse of the Year Curlin led Satish and Anne Sanan's Padua Stables to sell its 29 percent share in the colt to partners Jess Jackson and George Bolton, Satish Sanan said Wednesday.

Sanan would not disclose the price Padua received but said that a disagreement over selling the colt and "other issues that I can't discuss" led his family to cash out of the partnership.

New Ky. governor supports referendum

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky voters on Tuesday elected a new governor who supports a referendum on casino gambling in the state, virtually ensuring that the expansion of gambling will be a significant topic during the legislative session in 2008.

Democrat Steve Beshear, a former lieutenant governor in the 1980s, was elected by a preliminary margin of 59 percent to 41 percent, defeating incumbent Ernie Fletcher, a Republican. The issue of expanded gambling was a major campaign theme for both candidates, with Beshear supporting a referendum on the issue and Fletcher opposed.

Taylor Made cuts some fees

Taylor Made became the latest central Kentucky farm to announce some cuts in stud fees for the 2008 breeding season, dropping the fees for five stallions it stands alone or in partnership with WinStar Farm. Among the horses who will stand for less in 2008 is Taylor Made's popular sire Unbridled's Song; he drops from $200,000 to $150,000 for the coming season.

Also trimmed were Forestry, who goes from $125,000 to $100,000; Northern Afleet, who goes from $15,000 to $10,000; Officer, who drops from $40,000 to $35,000; and Southern Image, from $15,000 to $10,000.

Youbet called in default of loan

Youbet.com, the online horse race broadcasting and wagering company, has agreed to pay a lender $100,000 and place restrictions on its financial dealings with its offshore rebate shop, International Racing Group, as a result of a default on a loan agreement because of the seizure of $1.5 million in IRG bank accounts by federal investigators in early October.

Kissin Kris moving to Canada

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Grade 1-winning millionaire Kissin Kris, who stood at Tommy Town Thoroughbreds in California this year, will move to Esquirol Farm in Canada for 2008.

Esquirol owner Pierre Esquirol purchased the 17-year-old Kris S. horse privately and will stand him for $3,000 (Canadian) in 2008.

Esquirol declined to reveal the price he paid for Kissin Kris in the private deal.

Adoration sells for $3.1M at auction

Adoration, winner of the 2003 Breeders' Cup Distaff and selling in foal to Curlin's sire Smart Strike, brought $3.1 million from Coolmore boss John Magnier early in the Keeneland November sale's second session Tuesday in Lexington, Ky.

The 8-year-old mare sold through the Mill Ridge agency for her owners, John and Jerry Amerman of Amerman Racing. The Amermans also have Grade 1 winner Spoken Fur in the Tuesday session as Hip No. 573. Like Adoration, Spoken Fur also is in foal to Smart Strike.
