Numbers mixed at Fasig-Tipton

Fasig-Tipton's Saratoga open yearling sale Tuesday saw gains in average and median, but 50 percent of the horses offered failed to reach their reserve prices.

The top-priced yearling at the one-day auction was a $30,000 Red Bullet filly out of the Polish Numbers mare Overdue Number. Flying Zee Stable purchased the bay filly from Southern Style Sales, which consigned her on behalf of Pegasus Farms, Inc. The sale-topper's dam is a full sister to stakes-winner Ghostly Numbers.

Buybacks, prices both high at sale

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Fasig-Tipton's New York-bred preferred yearling auction ended Sunday night in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., with a gain in overall average and median prices. But buybacks also were up from last year's figure, rising from 41 percent to 47 percent for the two-night sale.

A $165,000 Chapel Royal colt led Sunday's second of two sessions. James J. Barry was the buyer from Paramount Sales, agent. The colt is out of the El Gran Senor mare Devoted and is a half-brother to the stakes-placed filly Clarksburg Queen.

Better Than Honour to be sold at auction

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour - the dam of back-to-back Belmont winners Jazil and Rags to Riches whose value has been estimated by bloodstock experts as between $12 million and $15 million - will be offered at auction this fall, co-owner John Sikura said.

Sikura, the owner of Hill ’n’ Dale Farms, and Southern Equine Stables principal Mike Moreno will consign Better Than Honour, six other broodmares, and a broodmare or racing prospect to the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November breeding stock sale in Lexington in order to dissolve their partnership.

TVG revenue down for quarter

Revenue for Television Games Network in the second quarter of 2008 was $13 million, a decline of 13 percent compared with revenue of $14.7 million in the second quarter last year, according to financial documents released Thursday by the account-wagering company's parent.
