Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr.'s career may be on the line as the New York State Racing and Wagering Board holds a hearing into whether he should be licensed.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The attorney representing Richard Dutrow Jr. in his fight with the New York State Racing and Wagering Board over his trainer’s license believes there is an impropriety over the way the state is going about penalizing him for his two most recent violations and asked the board not to consider revocation as a punishment.

Slot-machine subsidies for Pennsylvania purses decline

Subsidies to Thoroughbred and Standardbred purses at Pennsylvania racetracks dropped 16.7 percent in 2010 compared with 2009 as a result of a legislative decision to divert a portion of the revenue from slot machines to the state’s general fund, according to a report released Thursday by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Illinois gaming bill defeated

Proposed legislation to expand gaming in Illinois radically, including the introduction of slot machines to racetracks, was voted down in a House of Representatives committee by a 6-5 margin late Wednesday, but could soon return for another committee vote.

Arlington Park testified against the amendment to Senate Bill 744, objecting to language in the bill requiring a so-called peace agreement with labor unions. The amendment required racetracks to form a three-year agreement with unions representing employees who would be hired to work in a racetrack casino.

Mullins ordered to serve 70 days by California Horse Racing Board

Bill would allow Catskill OTB to operate New York City parlors

Rep. Gary Pretlow, the chairman of the New York Assembly’s Racing and Wagering Committee, has introduced a bill that would give Catskill Off-Track Betting Corporation the right to operate off-track betting parlors in the five boroughs of New York City.

The bill, filed on April 29, would amend the state’s off-track betting law to add the five New York City boroughs to Catskill’s region. Catskill OTB currently operates 24 off-track betting parlors in the 13 upstate counties that own the public-benefit corporation.
