The New York State Racing and Wagering Board on Thursday approved the certificate of incorporation of a group that has said it would seek to obtain the state’s last remaining harness track license.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Regulations set to take effect in Kentucky on Sept. 6 that would have banned all raceday medications other than furosemide and lowered the threshold level for the allowable amount of the painkiller phenylbutazone in postrace tests were struck down on Tuesday by a state legislative committee.

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn on Tuesday vetoed a bill that would have allowed the state’s racetracks to operate slot machines as part of a major casino expansion, but lawmakers have vowed to attempt to override the veto later this year or craft new legislation addressing the governor’s concerns.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Ontario’s minister of agriculture, food and rural affairs, Ted McMeekin, announced Friday that an interim report from the horse racing transition panel agrees with the government’s decision to end the racetrack slots programs.

The Ontario Horse Racing Industry Association had welcomed the creation of the panel – comprising former Ontario cabinet ministers Elmer Buchanan, John Snobelen, and John Wilkinson – whose aim was to help the industry make the transition away from the slots-at-racetracks model.

Nevada’s casinos and the provider of bet-processing services for the casino’s racebooks have reached an agreement on a short-term extension of a contract, averting a potential shutdown of parimutuel betting on one of the bigger racing weekends of the year, according to officials involved in the negotiations.

The Jockey Club has issued a ruling that will prevent a Southwestern trainer from naming or registering foals or conducting any other business with the sport’s stud book for one year because the trainer altered a horse’s foal papers, the organization announced on Friday.

Paul Aguirre will be suspended for 12 months beginning Jan. 1, 2013, under a Jockey Club rule that allows the organization to deny privileges to individuals who have engaged in “deceptive practices,” the Jockey Club said.

Parimutuel wagering on Thoroughbred races in Nevada casinos is being put in jeopardy by a stand-off between the casinos and Las Vegas Dissemination Company, the casinos’ supplier of parimutuel signals and bet-processing services, according to officials with knowledge of the dispute.

Although officials would not confirm specifics, the dispute likely centers on the rate the Nevada Pari-Mutuel Association pays Las Vegas Dissemination Company for bet-processing services.

The Jockey Club on Wednesday officially announced the launch of its two social-networking games, projects that were recommendations of a report the organization commissioned last year examining ways for racing to market to new racing fans.

Voters in Maryland will be asked this fall whether they approve of a plan to allow a sixth casino in the state and the addition of table games to the state’s casino properties.

The referendum will be added to the November ballot after the state legislature passed a bill calling for the expansion at a special session this week. The bill was signed on Wednesday by Gov. Martin O’Malley, who called for the special session.

The Don MacBeth Memorial Jockey Fund has donated $70,000 to the Jockey Club Safety Net Foundation for the exclusive purpose of assisting jockeys and exercise riders, the two organizations announced on Friday. The MacBeth Fund, which was started in 1987 to assist injured riders, ceased operating at the end of 2011, and the $70,000 contribution represents its remaining funds.
