Breeders' Cup, NBC extend broadcast deal

NBC and its sister networks will produce nine broadcasts in the summer and fall next year featuring live coverage of 16 prep races for the Breeders’ Cup under a three-year renewal of a broadcasting contract between the two parties, the groups announced on Monday.

Mirahmadi, Wrona to call races at Santa Anita

Frank Mirahmadi will call the races at Santa Anita through June 27.

Frank Mirahmadi was named by Santa Anita on Monday as the announcer for the first part of its winter-spring meeting, which begins Dec. 26.

Mirahmadi and Michael Wrona, currently at Golden Gate Fields, will be the primary announcers at Santa Anita during its upcoming meeting following the sudden retirement of Trevor Denman after 33 years as Santa Anita’s announcer.

California expects to finalize plan for off-track stabling for 2016

CYPRESS, Calif. - A plan for off-track stabling for Southern California Thoroughbreds at Los Alamitos, San Luis Rey Downs, and Galway Downs in 2016 is expected to be finalized before the California Horse Racing Board meeting at Los Alamitos Racecourse on Thursday, according to racing board chairman Chuck Winner.

Winner said on Sunday that recent discussions between officials from area racetracks and horsemen’s organizations have progressed to the point that proposals are expected to be presented on Thursday.

Trainer Jeff Radosevich reaches 2,000 wins

Jeff Radosevich began training in the fall of 1993 following a 14-year career as a jockey.

Trainer Jeff Radosevich collected his 2,000th career victory when the 3-year-old filly She’s Slammed scored by 3 1/4 lengths as the 8-5 favorite in Saturday’s second race at Mahoning Valley Race Course.

Radosevich, 54, has been training since 1993, following a 14-year career as a jockey and 1,141 wins.

Radosevich was joined in a crowded winner’s circle by friends and family members, including his wife Yvonne, and children Justin, Josie, Nina, Billy, and Joshua.

Two-day pick six carryover of $134,344 at Aqueduct

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - For the second time this week, there will be a two-day pick six carryover at Aqueduct.

The wager went unhit Thursday and Friday, resulting in a carryover of $134,344 into Saturday’s nine-race program at the Big A. First post at Aqueduct is 12:20 p.m. Eastern and the pick six starts in race 4, which goes off at 1:50 p.m.

The pick six went unhit last weekend, resulting in a two-day carryover of $123,347 into Wednesday’s card.

The Pennsylvania State Senate overwhelmingly passed a bill Thursday that overhauls the state’s racing statute and sets up a new funding mechanism for the state’s racing regulatory agencies by sending more of the sport’s casino subsidies to a merged racing commission.

Indiana Grand will race 120 days in 2016

Indiana Grand in Shelbyville will conduct 120 live racing dates in 2016, according to a calendar approved by the Indiana Horse Racing Commission on Wednesday.

The schedule will include 114 live racing dates for Thoroughbreds, and six live dates for Quarter Horse racing, according to the commission. The meet will begin on April 19 and run through Oct. 29.

Aiello lands Oaklawn announcer job

Pete Aiello has been named the new announcer for Oaklawn Park, the Hot Springs, Ark., track which opens Jan. 15. He replaces Frank Mirahmadi, who said on Tuesday he had resigned to call races at Santa Anita. Mirahmadi hopes to land a permanent position at Santa Anita in the wake of Trevor Denman’s retirement from calling races there.
