Santa Anita: Pick-six carryover of $355,861 for Monday

ARCADIA, Calif. - The carryover in the single ticket jackpot pool at Santa Anita has reached $355,861 for Monday’s Memorial Day program.

The carryover was not a certainty until Not too Shiny ($10.20) won Sunday’s ninth race. There were three horses in the ninth race that would have produced a payoff in the single ticket pool had they won. Miz Strawberry Dee, who finished fourth at 7-1, had the best finish of those three horses.

Santa Anita: Pick-six carryover of $325,423 for Sunday

ARCADIA, Calif.- The carryover in the single ticket jackpot pool at Santa Anita has soared past $300,000, but only because Miner’s Light won Saturday’s ninth race by a nose.

Miner’s Light ($23.20) caught 102-1 Malibu Music in the last stride to win a maiden race at 1 1/8 miles on turf. A win by Malibu Music would have resulted in a payoff of more than $500,000 in the pick six, a sum that would have included the single ticket jackpot carryover of $287,404 from Friday.

Steeplechase jockey Paddy Young critical but stable with head trauma

Five-time champion steeplechase jockey Paddy Young is in critical but stable condition in a Pennsylvania hospital after being involved in a spill Saturday at the Radnor Races in Malvern, Pa., according to his wife, Leslie Young.

Leslie Young, a steeplechase trainer, said Paddy Young suffered head trauma after being kicked by a trailing horse when his mount, King’s Apollo, fell trying to negotiate a fence in the $30,000 Radnor Hunt Cup, a timber stakes race.

Leslie Young said her husband was wearing a new A.P. McCoy helmet, which she believes helped prevent further damage.
