Gierkink: How I'd play Saratoga on Friday, Aug. 7

FROSTY MARGARITA (8) is the one to fear most in the sixth race, a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight dash for New York-bred juvenile fillies.

She looked the part of a winner in midstretch after closing from fourth when debuting at Belmont on July 9 before being overtaken late by Wonderment, who subsequently romped in the $125,000 Lynbrook Stakes with a 74 Beyer Speed Figure.

Key Race report: Indecise returns in optional claimer

Indecise (#2, ML 8-5) returns in Thursday's seventh race at Del Mar, a one-mile optional claimer on turf. It will be her first start since finishing fourth by a head in the Grade 3 Wilshire Stakes on April 26 at Santa Anita. The third- and fifth-place finishers from that race came back to win stakes races in their next starts.

Goldfeder: How I'd play Del Mar for Thursday, Aug. 6

As we head into the third week of the Del Mar meet we are now seeing horses running for the second time during the meet. In some cases that experience over the track should prove beneficial.

Fornatale: How I'd play Saratoga on Thursday, Aug. 6

Thursday's Saratoga card is 10 races deep, highlighted by a pair of stakes at either end of the card, the A. P. Smithwick Memorial, a Grade 1 hurdle, and the Quick Call, a 5 1/2-furlong listed stakes on the grass for 3-year-olds. I'll be playing both of those races and a few of the offerings in between.

Free's horses to watch at Del Mar for week of Aug. 5

SERBIAN SYCLONE
Trainer: Peter Miller
Last race: July 29, 3rd
Finish: 6th by 7 1/4
Beyer: 69
Favored in a N2X turf sprint, this colt broke last from the rail, rushed inside, set the pace, and tired. This good allowance colt can be followed; he handles either surface.

Peck: Saratoga pick six for Wednesday, Aug. 5

A big carryover of $206,133 awaits pick six players as racing resumes at Saratoga on Wednesday. Here's one way to play the sequence with a $400 bankroll limit.

RACE 5
A lack of speed in this turf sprint gives the edge to the front-runners. That certainly would include DECENT (10), who could be the main speed and is proven on turf. I'll also include TRIPLE PLAY (2), SOURCESANDMETHODS (4), ONE EYED RAY (6), and EIGHTY THREE (8).
A: 10
B: 2, 6
C: 4, 8
