TimeformUS Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017

Race 3:
Three Eighty Eight (#4)

Closed well in a race that was dominated by speed horses last time.
Overcame a wide run around the far turn in that most recent start.
Should get a fair pace to close into with a few speeds signed on.
4-1 on ML.

Peck: Laurel Park pick four for Saturday, Feb. 18

Here's a look at Saturday's late pick four at Laurel, which includes four stakes races, highlighted by the Grade 2 Barbara Fritchie and the Grade 3 General George.

Gierkink: How I'll play Gulfstream on Saturday, Feb. 18

The late pick five begins with race 8 with a group of $75,000 maidens going long on the grass. It can be pared down to two droppers from maiden special weight company – LITTLE IRISHDANCER (4), who was among four next-out winners in her last race at Churchill, and PSALMODY (7) – along with the in-form duo of LITTLE HAVANA (3) and GOLD LACE (6).

Free: How I'd play Golden Gate Fields and Turf Paradise for Saturday, Feb. 18

Maybe the rain will stop. Maybe the Saturday card at Santa Anita will be run under sunny skies, on surfaces that are fast and firm.

Maybe the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus will hit the pick six on a $2 ticket.

Although a $32,114 carryover is up for grabs Saturday, inclement weather brings uncertainty. Santa Anita canceled racing Friday, and conditions Saturday are unknown. It is likely to be wet, which would be fine for City Steel, mud-loving standout in race 6.

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, February 18, 2017 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

There were many animalistic guttural sounds that came out of our throats as five horses finished on the wire in our Pick last week. Unfortunately, we finished second, third and in a dead heat for fourth—which gave us some claim on a gimmick payoff, while our preferred Pick got off slowly and finished even slower up the track. Such is racing. However, the rest of the week was quite superlative for BreezeFigs maidens, with 18 of them winning from coast-to-coast with a ton of gimmicks along the way.

Timeform US Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Friday, Feb. 17, 2017

Race 7:

Cinderela El Crome (#7)

The TimeformUS Pace Projector is predicting that he will be on the lead in a situation favoring the front-runner.

Was setting a very fast pace (indicated by red color-coding the PPs) that collapsed in his last start.

Has run some competitive TimeformUS Speed Figures.

20-1 on ML

Race 8:

Chief Lion (#4)

King: More Power to Him offers value in El Camino Real Derby

Jim McCue/Maryland Jockey Club
Imperial Hint could be difficult to catch in the Grade 3 General George at Laurel.

Sheer Flattery and Ann Arbor Eddie will take the bulk of the mutuel action in Saturday’s Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields, and the reasons are clear. Sheer Flattery is a graded stakes dropper whose last two Beyer Speed Figures exceed the career tops of his rivals, and Ann Arbor Eddie is a winner of three of four starts and a two-time stakes winner routing, albeit facing California-bred company.

Weekend Warrior for Saturday, Feb. 18: Picks for Barbara Fritchie, General George, Minaret

Jim McCue/Maryland Jockey Club
High Ridge Road, who beat By the Moon in the Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes, could do it again in the Barbara Fritchie at Laurel.

Laurel Park’s Winter Festival card has carved out a nice niche for itself, to the point that it is Saturday’s spotlight event. There are six stakes in this renewal of the Winter Festival, topped by the Grade 2, $300,000 Barbara Fritchie and Grade 3, $250,000 General George.

Gulfstream and Santa Anita have Grade 2, $200,000 features Saturday in the Royal Delta and Buena Vista. However, heavy rain was forecast for Southern California into Friday night and could have a significant impact on the Buena Vista, a one-mile race on turf.

Rampellini: Oaklawn horses to watch for week of Feb. 13

Our Majesty
Trainer: Ron Moquett
Last race: Feb. 10, 7th
Finish: 1st by 5 1/2
Beyer: 82
She debuted against older, more experienced rivals and put on a show, winning off while covering six furlongs in a sharp 1:10.20. She is a 3-year-old by Majesticperfection, and Moquett said he considers her one of the barn’s promising young fillies.
