Monmouth
Red Bank (race 9)
California-bred 3-year-olds will race for $200,000 in the two richest races Monday at Santa Anita. Bettors will find more appealing wagering opportunities in a pair of overnight races.
X Y Sky looks like an odds-on cinch in the Melair Stakes, race 5, a 1 1/16-mile dirt race for statebred fillies. B Squared is the one beat in the Snow Chief Stakes, race 8 at 1 1/8 miles on turf. The lightly raced B Squared is the tepid favorite at 3-1.
Meanwhile, the two “best plays” come in races 1 and 7. The good news – neither is favored.
Stormy Victoria
Trainer: Christophe Clement
Last race: May 27, 8th
Finish: 3rd by 4 1/2
Beyer: 84
After breaking slowly in the Grade 2 Nassau Stakes, she got caught behind a rival who stopped abruptly on the turn and then made up ground in the lane to finish a respectable third.
Josephine
Trainer: Mark Casse
Race 2:
Boss Lady Platinum (#5)
Set an extremely fast pace going a distance that is too far for her last time.
Has speed, and the Pace Projector is predicting a situation favoring runners on or near the lead.
Was very green in her only prior turf sprint and can do better today.
20-1 on ML

Race 4:
Pirate Sailor (#7)
Makes his first turf start for the capable Ray Handal barn.
Bolted heading into the clubhouse turn of his only grass race last fall.
Finds himself in against an easier field than he faced in his debut.
15-1 on ML

Saturday’s pick five at Santa Anita features two graded stakes on turf – the Daytona going down the hill and the Gamely going nine furlongs. Each race figures to have a rather heavy favorite. I’m going to lean on one of them and fade the other. Here’s how I’ll approach the pick five.
ARCADIA, Calif. - The pick six was hit on Friday for $25,113 by multiple ticketholders, resulting in a carryover of $287,404 in the single ticket jackpot pool for Saturday’s Gold Cup at Santa Anita program.
The single ticket portion of the pick six pool has not been his since May 4.
The winners of Friday’s pick six races were Conquest Sabre Cat ($7.80), Starr of Quality ($5.40), True Valor ($6.20), My Man Chuckles ($31.40), Chris and Dave ($19.80) and Allaboutmike ($10.20).
Race 4:
Stormin Monarcho (#1)
Should work out a good trip either setting the pace or stalking Shuffle Up.
Ran better than it appears last time after getting an under-aggressive ride.
Has run some of his better races around one turn in the past.
3-1 on ML
