TimeformUS Belmont Horses in Focus for Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017

Race 3:
Old Upstart (#4)

Was compromised by a slow pace and rail-biased track at Saratoga last time.

Usually goes longer, but has run competitively around one turn in the past.

There is some early speed in this field, and his 112 Late Pace Rating is more than 20 points higher than those of any of his competitors.

8-1 on ML

Race 7:
Lady of Miracles (#4)

Was compromised by a wide trip over a turf course that was favoring inside runners last time.

Peck: Laurel Park pick four for Saturday, Sept. 16

Several scratches in the Lady Turf Dash affected the ticket some, but here is an updated look at today's midcard pick four at Laurel, featuring the Fall Festival of Racing.

Fornatale: How I'll play Belmont Park on Saturday, Sept. 16

I’m up in Toronto for the Woodbine Mile and the track’s big handicapping contest, but my attention will be divided between the local oval and Belmont Park, especially with this cool multitrack pick five, which starts with Woodbine’s eighth race, the Grade 2 Canadian (I’ll single Quidura in the Canadian; use Noble Thought, Messi, and Hawkbill in the Northern Dancer; and try to get out with World Approval and Lancaster Bomber in the Mile).

I also definitely will be playing the late pick four at Belmont:

TimeformUS Belmont Horses in Focus for Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017

Race 5:
History Supreme (#4)

Has shown good speed in her two sprint starts and could find herself loose on the lead stretching out.

Is sired by solid turf influence Speightstown.

Her dam’s only other foal is a stakes-placed turf winner.

10-1 on ML

Race 7:
Black Tide (#10)

Set an extremely fast pace last time out in the West Point, and did well to only lose by two lengths given that the race was dominated by closers.

Seems to run his best races at a mile.

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, September 16, 2017, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Although she only held on by half-length, Moon Dash, our Pick last week, broke her maiden professionally and was expected to, returning a paltry $3.60. But, hey, she won. Fourteen other 2-year-old BreezeFigs maidens also won during the week, and two others, both first-time starters, won stakes races (at Finger lakes and Woodbine, at generous prices), which brought the total to 17 maiden winners.

Hammersly: Woodbine pick four play for Saturday, Sept. 16

Some strong European raiders provide linchpins for Saturday’s pick four at Woodbine (races 9-12). There are opportunities to find a spoiler or two in the sequence to boost the payoff.

Race 9

TimeformUS Belmont Horses in Focus for Friday, Sept. 15, 2017

Race 7:
Miss Katie Mae (#2)

Raced wide into the stretch last time on a day when horses were better off staying inside.

Has run two of her best career races at Belmont Park.

Should get an honest pace to close into with a few key speed types in the field.

3-1 on ML
