On Sunday at Gulfstream Park, there will be a mandatory payout in the Rainbow 6, a pick-six wager with a base bet of 20 cents. If the wager isn’t hit Friday or Saturday, the pool Sunday figures to be enormous, and even the smallest bettor should consider playing.

We didn’t particularly care for the order in which they finished, but when five of the six horses in the field are BreezeFigs maidens and they finish 1-2-3-4-5, you can’t complain too much if you didn’t mix and match them the right way; even though we pointed out that Lombo had a chance perhaps you were smarter than us in that race at Santa Anita.

The early pick four on the fabulous Pegasus World Cup Card consists of three maiden special weight events and the Grade 3 La Prevoyante Stakes.

A promising Bob Baffert runner trying turf for the first time and facing winners for the first time and a grass horse dropping out of a couple Grade 2 efforts could be key to a Pick-3 play on the Saturday Santa Anita card (races 6-8).

Race 6:
My Pirate (#7)
Gets a significantly positive trainer switch from Jaime Mejia (16 TimeformUS Trainer Rating) to John Toscano Jr.  (67 Trainer Rating).
Is bred to stretch out in distance as a half-brother to stakes-winning routers Half Heaven and Sweet Vendetta.
It’s a positive sign to see Trevor McCarthy take the mount.

I will know very early where I stand in Saturday’s late pick four at Gulfstream – the sequence that ends with the Pegasus World Cup – because I’m singling the Southern California shipper Marley’s Freedom in the first leg, race 9, the Hurricane Bertie Stakes.

All eyes will be on Gulfstream Park on Saturday when the world’s richest race – the Grade 1, $16 million Pegasus World Cup – will be run. The Pegasus will mark the final career start of Gun Runner, who will be heavily favored against 11 opponents on the strength of a 2017 campaign that saw him win four straight Grade 1 events, capped by the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Gun Runner’s streak was sure to land him Horse of the Year honors at the Eclipse Awards dinner Thursday night.
