BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, August 25, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Like just about everyone else, we were ready to cash our win bet on Ahead of Plan last week when he unaccountably blew his lead inside the final yards—but at least he was our key recommendation so it wasn’t a total loss. The juvenile BreezeFigs maidens went on a rampage last week with 17 of them winning, at: Delaware, Del Mar (two), Ellis (two), Evangeline, Gulfstream (five, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Laurel, Monmouth, Saratoga (three, including two BreezeFigs exactas), and Woodbine.

Weekend Warrior for Saturday, Aug. 25: Picks for Travers Stakes, Sword Dancer Stakes, Pat O'Brien Stakes

Debra A. Roma
Gronkowski trains at Saratoga on Thursday.

It might not have the retired Triple Crown winner Justify, but the Travers Stakes is still the Travers – the Grade 1, $1.25 million centerpiece of this Saratoga meet and the high point of a Breeders’ Cup-like card Saturday that includes five other Grade 1 events. Those other Grade 1’s are the $1 million Sword Dancer, the $700,000 Personal Ensign, the $600,000 Forego, the $500,000 Ballerina, and the $500,000 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial. And let’s not forget about the Grade 2, $400,000 Ballston Spa Stakes.
