Race 2: Sandy Belle (#5)

The Pace Projector is predicting a situation favoring horses on the front end, and she is quick enough to make the lead.

Hopped at the start last time, which cost her any chance she might have had.

Her overall wet track record belies the fact that she strongly prefers a harrowed surface.

Seeking to capitalize on the overlaid presence of an 8-1 shot in Awesome Hills in the fifth race Saturday at Gulfstream Park, here is a swing at the second of three Pick 4s there on the afternoon.

Race 5: Although favored Bobby Lee (8) could certainly win this $12,500 claimer for 3-year-olds and ranks as a filly to use in the Pick 4, she is no bargain at 7-5 odds on the morning line. That seems short on a horse with just one top-four finish from five starts, coming in her maiden win at the $15,000 level.

I’ll take a stand against the morning-line favorite when opening the early pick four at Santa Anita with a single, then try to get some coverage the rest of the way. Here’s the play:

Race 2: Just eight days removed from his faltering finish in the Grade 3 Sham, Savagery wheels back as the 8-5 program favorite in what’s obviously a much less demanding spot – except for the presence of Macwinnon (1), my single, who’s liable to outfoot him to the turn and go on to a third straight win.

The scratch of one of the three BreezeFigs fillies in our Pick last week opened the way for Golden Lullaby to be pounded down to odds-on, and she won—but our key, Kylie’s Boots, got up for second to complete a modest BreezeFigs exacta.

Race 1: Communal (#1)
Ran a competitive speed figure in her career debut.
May not have appreciated a sloppy track when returning from the layoff last time.
Is bred to stretch out in distance since her dam, Centring, was a classy dirt router.

The Pace Projector is predicting a situation favoring runners near the lead, and she should be sitting right off the likely pacesetter early.

Gets significant class relief after she was overmatched in her prior start.
