TimeformUS Belmont Horses in Focus for Friday, Oct. 11, 2019

Race 5: Carom (#4)

Got a poor ride when going wide around both turns at Saratoga on July 18.

Ran a respectable race against a much tougher field last time.

Won his only prior start against claiming company, so he should appreciate this drop in class.

3-1 on ML

Weekend GamePlan for Oct. 12, 2019: Picks for Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, E.P. Taylor Stakes, Nearctic Stakes

Coady Photography
Magnetic Charm is back with 3-year-old fillies in the Queen Elizabeth II after finishing second against older runners in the Canadian Stakes at Woodbine.

It’s fully autumn now, getting cold all over after some surprisingly summery weather, there’s a lot of rain over the eastern half of the country, and nearly all the main Saturday stakes action is on turf. Summer fast-ground grass horses are going to start struggling to get over more demanding ground, and we’ll see what sort of effect that has on the races at Keeneland, Woodbine, and Belmont.

Race 6: Mo Maverick (#8)
The Pace Projector is predicting he will be contesting the lead in a situation favoring the front-runner.
Has an aggressive rider, Kendrick Carmouche, who should be able to orchestrate a front-running trip.
Is getting some needed class relief after facing tougher foes in recent starts.

Race 1: Amos (#6)

Was steadied after the start last time, placing her too far behind in the early going.

Has run her best dirt races when she’s up close to the pace, and she should be more forwardly placed this time.

Gets a positive rider switch to Joel Rosario in her second turf start.

Beer: How I'll play Belmont Park on Saturday, October 5, 2019

The late pick 5 at Belmont on Saturday includes three graded stakes - the Grade 2 Hill Prince, the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, and the Grade 1 Champagne. With those major races offering competitive fields, and with the sequence being bookended by a pair of maiden events with full fields, there may be a chance to make this thing pay.

Race 7 – Maiden special weight
