But while they are difficult to decipher that also naturally means there is value to be had, especially in multi-race exotics, and a winning ticket in this sequence promises to be lucrative. Here's a look:

The fall meet ends Sunday with a mandatory payout in the jackpot pick six to spice up an otherwise modest card. The 20-cent pick-six wager, which was not offered Breeders’ Cup Friday or Saturday, begins Sunday with $436,837 already in the pool.

To say that we were ready to throw something at the screen when we saw that our Pick, The Virginian, was hustled immediately to challenge the hot, very fast, favorite out of the gate would be somewhat of an understatement because we suspected that our choice needed to settle and close. We may prove to be correct next time out because these two cooked each other though our horse did complete a modest superfecta.

A very interesting pick-five sequence greets players on the first day of the Breeders' Cup starting in race 5, with a couple of races seemingly wide open and others - at least on the surface - that appear to be more manageable. Here's one way to play it, featuring a couple of singles as well as a pair of wide spreads.

Unlike in most prior years, this Breeders’ Cup Classic is unlikely to decide Horse of the Year honors, as none of the competitors have distinguished themselves as front-runners for that award. Yet, division titles are still up for grabs among the 3-year-olds and the older horses. McKinzie will be the favorite to win this Classic, but he’s hardly scaring anyone away in what amounts to a wide-open edition of this race.
