RACE 5: GONGHEIFATCHOY (#2)

Fri, 02/14/2020 - 11:22

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, February 15, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

We were leery of our Pick’s rail position last week but we thought 10-to-1 were tempting enough odds to take a chance on a gimmick play. We were therefore stunned when Saintsation was pounded down to 3-to-2 –but she still got off tardily and wound up last. Such is life. However, 10 BreezeFigs maidens won during the week at: Gulfstream (four, including a BreezeFigs trifecta and two BreezeFigs exactas), Parex, Sam Houston, Santa Anita and Tampa Bay (three).

Weekend GamePlan for Feb. 15, 2020: Picks for Mineshaft, Pelican, Dixie Belle, and General George

Coady Photography
Pirate's Punch, here winning an allowance at Indiana Grand last summer, goes into Saturday's Mineshaft Stakes off a 101 Beyer allowance victory at Fair Grounds.

By rights, one should come up with a play in the signature race (races, actually) of the weekend, the Grade 2, $400,000 Risen Star, the prep for the Louisiana Derby that attracted so many entrants it was splint into two divisions. Instead, I’ll just talk about those races because I don’t have a substantive enough opinion in either to plot a play.

Peck: Tampa horses to watch for week of Feb. 10, 2020

MR. QUALITY

Trainer: Tim Glyshaw

Last race: Feb. 8, 7th

Finish: 6th by 6

Beyer: 48

Got loose briefly pre-start, then made a little middle move before tiring in decent debut; should benefit from the experience, as the works he showed prior to this debut did hint at some ability.
