Brad Free's cross-country plays for Thursday, April 30, 2020

An appealing card Thursday at Gulfstream Park includes several live longshots; the deep and baffling card at Oaklawn Park produced one play. Jumping in:

Gulfstream Park double, races 2-3 (1:35 p.m. ET) – If the program favorite wins either race, the double is dead. The favorites could win both, but neither is a cinch. In race 2, Sunshine City (3) is from a stable whose debut 2-year-olds tend to be undervalued. In race 3, Monmouth Dr (6) is a dropper at even-money, not usually a great bet. The double excludes both.

Brad Free's cross-country plays for Wednesday, April 29, 2020

Midwest racing is getting a lot of attention lately, as will a stakes doubleheader Wednesday at Fonner Park in Nebraska. Over at Will Rogers Downs in Oklahoma, a modest card includes a late double worth a look. Value at both tracks? It could happen.

Brad Free's cross-country plays for Sunday, April 26, 2020

Craziness early and uniformity late is the Sunday blueprint at Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park. It begins with a Jaime-come-lately. Diving in:

Gulfstream Park, Race 1 (12:55 p.m. ET) – Form reversals usually apply to horses. Sometimes it applies to trainers, which is happening now in Florida. From 2014 through 2019, Jaime Mejia was a 4 percent trainer (68 wins, 1,571 starts). This year, Meija is 5 for 20 with three wins from his last five starters, including another winner Saturday. Quite an unexpected run.
