With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:15 BEL 1st AFTER PROM PARTY (#3, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer).
1:15 BEL 1st PEACEFUL FEELING (#6, 3-1) managed only four starts last year, including one at Belmont where she did well to be beaten about three lengths after losing all chance at the start in a race that was won wire-to-wire; got wired again last time at Gulfstream and drops in class for Sweezey, who has so far shipped the right ones to NY (5 for 21 on this circuit since going out on his own, 24%, $3.36 ROI). -Mike Beer
1:29 WO 2nd TAKE IT EASY (#3, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink).
Though one of our Pix was scratched and the other got off badly and may still be running, it was a week during which a plethora of 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens crossed the wire first—16 of them at 11 tracks, which is spreading the wealth in any game. These wins came at Belmont (two), Churchill (two), Delaware, Evangeline, Fonner, Gulfstream, Indiana Grand (two), Lone Star, Prairie Meadows (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Santa Anita (two), and Tampa Bay. How’s that for a Grand Tour?
Back in 2014, Gayle Benson’s GMB Racing hatched a plan. The Bensons (husband Tom is since deceased), owners of the New Orleans Saints of the NFL and Pelicans of the NBA, are bound tight to the fabric of New Orleans, and they sent three native New Orleanian trainers – Tom Amoss, Al Stall, and Dallas Stewart – out to Thoroughbred auctions. The only stipulation was each trainer had a budget cap. The trainers could spend the funds any way they liked.
RACE 6: LADY C ships in from Oaklawn, which has produced a multitude of winners around the country since that meet ended; that last Beyer she earned obviously makes her very tough here. FANCY PANTS may be best of the locals; eyes her third straight win since returning from the freshening. JOSIE THE E F FIVE, part of an entry with J P’s GLADYS, was a game winner when last seen.
