Weekend GamePlan for Sept. 26, 2020: Picks for Awesome Again, Vosburgh, Ack Ack

Barbara D. Livingston
Improbable, shown training at Saratoga in late July, has maintained his morning sharpness since winning the Whitney.

Somewhat out of the blue, as we gear up for the heart of the fall racing season (which, unbelievably, includes the Preakness and its attendant Pimlico stakes), it has been an award-winning week for trainer-speak. I’ve lost count of the number of “he couldn’t be doing betters” and “I couldn’t be happier with hims” that have been attached to major horses working toward autumn targets this week.

Peck: Monmouth horses to watch for week of Sept. 21, 2020

WARRIOR'S BLADE

Trainer: Pat McBurney

Date: Sept. 20, 13th

Finish: 4th by 5 1/2

Beyer: 45

A complete lack of pace in this maiden turf sprint left the closers with a lot to do late, but this filly did show some late interest despite finishing off the board. Can run down the right group given a better race flow.

Golden Hour Late Pick 4 a bettor friendly addition to Santa Anita and Golden Gate wagering menu

Emily Shields
Our Silver Oak (No. 1) was up for a head victory under Mike Smith in Saturday's Snow Chief Stakes.

ARCADIA, Calif. – A new $1 wager combining the final two races at Santa Anita and the final two at Golden Gate will debut Friday as one of the least expensive wagers in California.

The 15 percent takeout for the Golden Hour Late Pick 4 ranks only behind the 14 percent early pick five in takeout among California wagers. The new daily wager begins with the next to last race at Santa Anita, followed in order by the next to last at Golden Gate, final at Santa Anita, and final at Golden Gate.
