Gulfstream Park kicks off a four-day week of racing at 1 p.m. Eastern on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

Sunday TimeformUS Highlight Horse: Ghostghostghost can rebound with clean break

Funny Bones Flag (#8) figures to go off as the slight favorite after finishing second at this level last time when she returned from a 7-month layoff. Considering the long break and the fact that it was her first dirt start, she ran fine to be second. I prefer her to Dancing Kiki, who finished right behind her that day.

Saturday TimeformUS Highlight Horse: Added distance shouldn’t be an issue for improving Malibu Star

The two major players here are Chestertown and Malibu Star. Both of these 4-year-olds were expensive auction purchases who just now appear to be reaching their full potential.

First, our apologies for listing the wrong race for one of our Pix last week—we listed it as the second race at Aqueduct when it was the seventh. Typo notwithstanding we were pretty stunned to see our Pick B C Glory Days take the lead in a mile race and hold it to one yard from the wire only to finish third—at least getting into a couple of gimmicks. Our other Pick, Si Como No, showed keen speed at Gulfstream only to fade at the furlong grounds—but actually came on again late. Tab this one back in cheaper company.

Weekend GamePlan for Jan. 23, 2021: Picks for Pegasus World Cup, Pegasus World Cup Turf, Fifth Season

Barbara D. Livingston
Code of Honor gallops at Gulfstream on Thursday. At age 5, he still has room for improvement.

Other than a lack of star power, the Pegasus World Cup and Pegasus World Cup Turf have everything you’d want in Grade 1 stakes races. The fields are full, with overmatched entrants few and far between, and plenty of grist to run through the handicapping mill.

Besides the excellent, appealing Pegasus card at Gulfstream, there’s the first Saturday of racing at Oaklawn Park, meaning the American winter racing season is heating up.
