ARCADIA, Calif. – How much money could a horseplayer make by simply identifying the likely pacesetter in two-turn dirt races this season at Santa Anita?
Pacesetters won more than one-third of dirt routes (40 of 115) through last Sunday, with payoffs that would nearly double a bettor’s outlay ($2 win payoffs totaled $412.40).
It seems like an easy system – comb Daily Racing Form past performances, identify the speed in dirt routes, and let the money flow.
Our Pick last week, Roger McQueen, was given too much to do too early—he’s a big horse not especially suited to 4 ½ furlongs—but he did last to complete the trifecta—tab him back longer. There were two juvenile BreezeFigs winners during the week, and there are more OBSAPR entries showing up. The 3-year-olds had a decent run with a half dozen winning at Arlington (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Belmont (two), Indiana and Parx. We have an extra today, one from each card, see below. Stay safe and good luck!

Fourteen – that’s the total number of entrants in the three graded turf stakes Saturday at Santa Anita. I went to dive into the past performances and hit my head on the bottom of the pool.
We'll be making stops at Churchill and at rainy Belmont and Monmouth.

Trainer: Ryan Hanson
Last race: May 21, race 2
Finish: 2nd by 5 1/2

Debut 2-year-old lacked speed, raced wide, covered significantly more ground than runaway winner, and finished evenly in solid debut. Filly wants farther than four and a half.
