Nothing will ever be the same, really, after the global COVID-19 pandemic, but Saturday, July 17 almost feels like old times in horse racing.

The Shadwell Stable entry figures to attract plenty of support, as both halves of this pair are contenders. I slightly prefer Arham (#1), who has run well in both dirt starts since stretching out to a mile. However, he was supposed to win last time when he had dead aim on eventual winner Yankee Division and just couldn’t forge past.
Each week in this space, the top Beyer performances by maiden winners will be featured and analyzed. Click here for a complete archive.

Our 2-year-old Pick last week was scratched, which bummed us because we really liked her, but Upandcomingstar, our 3-year-old Pick in the next race at Ellis was a winner until the last couple of jumps when he got beat out but still completed a trifecta and superfecta. Still, it was a good week for the 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens as eight of them won at Arlington (two), Belmont, Bel Terra, Fort Erie, Gulfstream, Penn Natioal and Woodbine. The babies scored at Arlington (BreezeFigs exacta), Lone Star and Los Alamitos.
