One of the challenges in deciphering the Lake George is determining which was the best prep for this race. I want to lean towards horses coming out of the Wonder Again, which was perhaps a slightly tougher race than the Wild Applause or Tepin that others exit.
Even if you did trust our skepticism you still would have done well with our 2-year-old Saratoga Pick last week as our keys, Carpe All Day and Seal Beach finished second and third to the one we tossed in as a skeptical saver, Chattalot for a BreezeFigs trifecta. A few races earlier War Smoke, our 3-year-old Pick, just failed get up in the last strides but still fulfilled his key duty in the exacta.
Too bad there are only four in North America’s lone Grade 1 on Saturday, the Coaching Club American Oaks, which will have Malathaat as an odds-on favorite hardly worth trying to beat. Sure, there are just six Saturday in Europe’s biggest race, the King George (post time 10:35 a.m. Eastern – don’t miss it) but what a sextet, headed by the great Love, Derby winner Adayar, and Saudi Cup and Sheema Classic winner Mishriff. Closer to home, we’re making stops on both coasts and north of the U.S. border to find three plays.
