Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf: Sky Lantern can turn things around for hard-luck Hannon

ARCADIA, Calif. - Sky Lantern, who might be favored in the $1 million Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday, shipped to Santa Anita from England this past weekend. By all accounts her flight went fine, and Sky Lantern was scheduled for her first North American training session Tuesday morning. So far, so good. But her trainer, Richard Hannon, surely won’t rest easy until Sky Lantern has come through her race without incident.

Tom Keyser
The European-based filly Nahrain, shown at Belmont Park last month, is a serious contender in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf.

ARCADIA, Calif.- Autumn stakes in the United States seem to fit the 4-year-old English filly Nahrain.

Last fall, she was second in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs in her first start in this country. Last month, she won the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Invitational at Belmont Park, her only stakes win in four starts this year.
