Barbara D. Livingston

Theirs is a shared heritage, rife with similarities that resonate through much of the racing world. In the cases of the five people profiled here, their common bond is a father who has been a winner – a big winner – during years and years of success, men whose considerable influence permeates not just their racing operation but their family lineage as well.

Breeders' Cup Marathon: Without Richard's Kid, Eldaafer, two new contenders emerge

Barbara D. Livingston
Suns Out Guns Out will take a shot at the Breeders' Cup Marathon after winning his most recent start, an allowance at Parx.

Following a solid performance in the Pacific Classic Stakes, Richard’s Kid could have been considered a flight risk to try the Breeders’ Cup Classic instead of testing the Marathon.

The division’s de facto leader, Richard’s Kid will indeed pass on the Marathon, but instead of the Classic, the horse’s next stop will be the breeding shed. The 8-year-old Richard’s Kid was retired on Tuesday after he was found to have sustained a slight tendon tear.
