Rainbow 6 carryover reaches $419.278

There will be a Rainbow 6 jackpot carryover of $419,278 into Friday’s card at Gulfstream Park. The sequence will run on races 5-10. The jackpot has not been hit for the past 23 race dates at Gulfstream. 
The Rainbow 6 is 20-cent minimum wager and the jackpot is paid out only when there is a single, unique ticket sold with all six winners in the sequence. On days when there is no such ticket, 70 percent of the day’s pool goes to those holding tickets with the most winners, while 30 percent carries over to the jackpot pool.

Oaklawn increasing average daily purses 12 percent in 2016

Purses during the Oaklawn Park meet that opens in January are projected to average a record $475,000 a program, the Hot Springs, Ark., track announced on Thursday. Oaklawn anticipates distributing $27 million in total purses during the season that starts Jan. 15 and runs through April 16. Of that amount, a record $7.5 million is dedicated to the stakes schedule that Oaklawn announced in July.

Trainer Rojas pleads not guilty to wire fraud, conspiracy

Trainer Murray Rojas has entered a plea of not guilty to charges of federal wire fraud and conspiracy that were handed down by federal prosecutors in an investigation linked to allegations of the illegal administration of drugs to horses on race day, according to court records.

Rojas, 49, entered the plea on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Harrisburg, Pa., according to the records. Jury selection for a trial has been set for Nov. 2.

After walking for about 20 minutes, stopping intermittently for a drink of water and to pose for pictures, the Triple Crown winner seemed ready to head over to the front side of Saratoga Race Course.

Former Godolphin vet Michael Hauser dies

Michael Hauser, a prominent veterinarian who tended to a host of high-profile horses during his tenure with Godolphin Racing, died last Friday in Oregon, confirmed longtime friend Tom Albertrani. Hauser succumbed to complications from a recent surgery.

Hauser spent some of his veterinary career in Dubai and England on behalf of Godolphin and during that time he worked with such Grade 1 or Group 1 winners as Daylami, Dubai Millennium, Fantastic Light, and Street Cry. Hauser was also involved in equine research, and about a year ago spent time practicing in New York.

Betfair, Paddy Power in merger talks

Betfair, the British exchange-wagering operator and owner of TVG and HRTV, is in formal discussions to merge with the Irish bookmaker Paddy Power, the two companies said on Wednesday.

The proposed merger would create one of the largest betting companies in the world, with Betfair’s market-leading exchange-wagering site combined with Paddy Power’s network of bricks-and-mortar betting outlets and an online bookmaking site. Using 2014 figures, the two companies would account for approximately $1.5 billion in annual revenue.

U.S. appeals court: New Jersey sports betting unconstitutional

A federal appeals court has upheld a series of rulings saying an effort by New Jersey to legalize sports betting is unconstitutional.

The Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia agreed with lower courts in ruling that New Jersey could not legalize sports betting without violating a 1992 federal ban on the practice that included several exemptions. Most major professional sports leagues and the NCAA had filed suit against New Jersey’s efforts to allow sports betting.
