Frosted, California Chrome share world's No. 2 ranking on Longines list

Frosted earned a 123 Beyer for his 14 1/4-length win in the Met Mile.

Frosted, who in his last start won the Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park in New York by 14 1/4 lengths, has been moved to the co-second-highest-ranked horse in the world on the Longines World’s Best Racehorse List, according to the latest ranking from the committee responsible for the list.

Veterinarian fined for failing to give horse Lasix

Veterinarian Robert Campbell has been fined $1,000 by the Delaware Park board of stewards for causing the scratch of Suffused from the Grade 3, $200,000 Robert Dick Memorial last Saturday.

Suffused, trained by Bill Mott, was the 5-2 second choice on the morning line for the Dick Memorial. Mott shipped her to Delaware, but she had to be scratched after she was not treated with the anti-bleeding medication Lasix during the specified time window prior to the race.

Suffused scratched from Dick Memorial after missing Lasix dose

Suffused, under Jose Ortiz, wins the 1 15/16-mile Belmont Coronation Invitational on Thursday.

Suffused, the 5-2 second choice in the Grade 3 Robert Dick Memorial at Delaware Park on Saturday, was scratched after First Equine, the third-party administrator of Lasix, or Salix, at Delaware Park, did not treat her with the anti-bleeding medication.

Suffused, trained by Bill Mott and owned and bred by Juddmonte Farms, was shipped from Belmont Park to Delaware Park for the $200,000 Dick Memorial, a 1 3/8-mile turf race for fillies and mares.

Fund set up for injured trainer Pleterski

A Go Fund Me account has been set up for trainer Don Pleterski, who was seriously injured in an accident at Fort Erie Racetrack on June 26.

Pleterski remains in a Buffalo, N.Y., hospital with a fractured skull, back, neck, and ribs. His road to recovery will be long and costly, and donations can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/2ca829g.

Record handle on Queen's Plate Day

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The wagering on Sunday’s 13-race Woodbine card was a record for Queen’s Plate Day at $11,839,883, up 7 percent from last year, when the handle was $11,064,870.

The total betting on the $1 million Queen’s Plate was $2,916,003, which doesn’t include the horizontal wagers that ended on the Plate. Those were the daily double ($54,769), pick three ($113,784), and pick five ($168,281).

It was the second-biggest handle in Woodbine history, after the 1996 Breeders’ Cup, where the handle was $44,366,422 on the 10-race card.

Incorrect order of finish costs NYRA more than $50,000

ELMONT, N.Y. – The posting of the incorrect fourth-place finisher in Friday’s eighth race at Belmont Park cost the New York Racing Association more than $50,000 as it wound up paying out on multiple superfecta combinations, track officials confirmed Saturday.

The error also prompted the New York State Gaming Commission and NYRA to conduct investigations into how the error occurred and what, if any, changes could be made to ensure the error doesn’t happen again.

Legal Authority disqualified from race after failed drug test

ARCADIA, Calif. – Part of the purse of a maiden special weight race at Santa Anita on May 8 has been redistributed after second-place finisher Legal Authority tested positive for the banned tranquilizer acepromazine, according to a ruling issued by Santa Anita stewards on Friday.

Legal Authority was second at 14-1 in a $56,000 race on turf, earning $11,200, which has been ordered forfeited by owners BG Stables and Hector Palma. Palma is a co-owner and the trainer of Legal Authority.

Chuck Borell released on bond in alleged animal-cruelty case

Chuck Borell, who along with his daughter, Maria Borell, has been charged with animal cruelty in the case of 43 abandoned Thoroughbreds on a farm in Mercer County in central Kentucky, was released from the Boyle County Detention Center on Friday.

According to a report in The Blood-Horse, Borell posted a $4,300 nonrefundable bond. He is due in court Wednesday for his arraignment. Borell, who leased the farm where the 43 abandoned horses had been kept and was the principal caregiver of the horses, was arrested by county sheriffs last Wednesday.
