Coolmore buys into Dutrow-trained 2-year-old Mo Town

ELMONT, N.Y. - Coolmore has purchased part-interest in the promising 2-year-old colt Mo Town, and the horse will stay with trainer Tony Dutrow, a spokesman for Coolmore confirmed Tuesday afternoon.

Scott Calder, director of sales/marketing for Coolmore America, confirmed the deal but did not disclose financial terms.

Exaggerator retired to stand at WinStar Farm

Exaggerator earned more than $3.5 million in his career.

Exaggerator, the winner of the Preakness Stakes and the only 3-year-old male to win three Grade 1 races this year, was officially retired on Monday and will stand at stud beginning next year at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky., it was announced by WinStar.

The announcement was not a surprise, as Exaggerator had been taken out of training two weeks ago following a disappointing performance in the Pennsylvania Derby and had been taken to WinStar, which had taken over control of Exaggerator’s career.

Pretty City Dancer to miss Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies

Pretty City Dancer won the Debutante by 3 1/4 lengths.

Pretty City Dancer, one of the top 2-year-old fillies in North America, will not race in the Breeders' Cup, according to trainer Mark Casse.

Casse said last week that Pretty City Dancer had come out of her Sept. 23 workout at Saratoga with a minor ankle injury and had missed some training. On Monday, Casse said that although Pretty City Dancer had recovered from the injury, he had decided to give her 30 days off and that she would miss the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita on Nov. 5.

Firing Line to miss Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile

Firing Line has resumed training after missing the Harry Brubaker Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 24 because of a strained muscle.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Firing Line, second in the 2015 Kentucky Derby, will miss the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita on Nov. 4 after falling behind in recent training.

Trainer Simon Callaghan said on Saturday that he is planning a late-autumn and winter campaign for Firing Line, who missed a scheduled start in the Harry Brubaker Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 24 because of a strained muscle.

There was a chance that Firing Line could have run in the BC Dirt Mile after a series of workouts, but Callaghan said that is no longer a possibility.

Power outage causes delay at Keeneland

The massive Saturday card of Keeneland's fall meet, with five graded stakes, including three Grade 1 events, was delayed slightly due to a massive power outage caused by a problem with a transformer in the area.

Power went out at Keeneland at about 10:30 a.m. Eastern; power was also out at the adjacent Bluegrass Airport, and traffic lights were out at Keeneland's entrance gates. Power came back on at the track moments before noon.

Motion won't have to serve suspension

Trainer Graham Motion says Main Sequence will be pointed to the United Nations at Monmouth Park on July 5.

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Trainer Graham Motion will not have to serve a five-day suspension levied by stewards last year for an overage of a regulated muscle relaxant in a horse he trained who won a stakes race at the Keeneland Spring meet, under a modified penalty agreement approved on Tuesday by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission.

Kitten’s Point, the George Strawbridge-owned filly who tested positive for the drug, will remain disqualified from the April 24 Bewitch Stakes under the agreement, and Motion will still be assessed a $500 fine. The Bewitch had a $150,000 purse.

Beaten Arc favorite Postponed unlikely to come for Breeders' Cup Turf

Postponed, training at Meydan, comes into the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes on a five-race winning streak.

Postponed, the beaten favorite in Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly Racecourse in France, is doubtful to start in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 5, trainer Roger Varian said on Tuesday.

In a brief telephone conversation, Varian said Postponed has run for the final time this year. In the Arc, Postponed finished fifth as the 15-8 favorite, beaten 6 1/2 lengths by the winner, Found.

Gallardo changes plans, will move tack to New York

Antonio Gallardo has been riding seven days a week, splitting time between Presque Isle Downs and Monmouth Park.

Antonio Gallardo, the leading rider in North America by wins (289) this year, was planning on taking his talents to the West Coast to begin riding at Santa Anita next weekend. But in an abrupt change of plans, Gallardo will instead start riding at Belmont Park next weekend with the idea of staying on the East Coast for the winter.

Exaggerator gets a freshening

Exaggerator, who finished seventh in the Pennsylvania Derby, will stay at WinStar Farm for a while.

Exaggerator, the winner of three Grade 1 races this year, including the Preakness Stakes, went to WinStar Farm on Friday for a freshening, according to his trainer, Keith Desormeaux.

Desormeaux said he is unsure whether Exaggerator would make the Breeders' Cup Classic, though he acknowledged, "It may be a little close to the race to think he'd return from a freshening and run, but we'll see what happens."

No jail for Charles Borell in plea deal

HARRODSBURG, Ky. – Charles Borell, a Syracuse, N.Y., resident charged in Mercer County, Ky., with 43 counts of animal cruelty earlier this year, pled guilty to nine of the charges on Thursday as part of a plea deal with county prosecutors in a case that has drawn widespread attention because of Borell’s connection to the former trainer of 2015 sprint champion Runhappy.
