Field favored at 2-1 in Pool 2 of Kentucky Derby Future Wager

Catholic Boy will enter the Sam F. Davis Stakes next month off his win in the Remsen.

The mutuel field, the 24th or “all others” option, is the 2-1 favorite after the first of three days of wagering into Pool 2 of the 2018 Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

With $72,268 in the win pool and another $21,560 in exactas, the field is favored over individual interests Bolt d’Oro (5-1), Good Magic (8-1), Audible (11-1), and McKinzie (12-1).

All wagering was suspended on Montauk (No. 15) just prior to the opening of Pool 2 at noon Eastern Friday when the colt’s connections informed track officials he has been declared from Derby consideration.

Three-year racehorse depreciation schedule reinstated

Breeders' Cup adds Juvenile Turf Sprint, boosts Sprint purse

Breeders’ Cup has added a race to its official roster, the Juvenile Turf Sprint, and will increase the purse of the Breeders’ Cup Sprint to $2 million, the organization announced Monday.

The Turf Sprint, which has been run as an undercard race during the two-day Breeders’ Cup event in the past several years, will be run at about 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf and be open to 2-year-olds. The race will have a $1 million purse and now be considered the 14th official Breeders’ Cup race of the two-day event, which will be held this year at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 2-3.

Turfway quarantines barn after horse put down due to EHV1

Pennsylvania commission rescinds several suspensions

The Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission has rescinded a handful of suspensions it doled out to trainers and owners who challenged broad subpoenas the commission issued last year, according to copies of the rulings provided by the licensees’ attorney.

The rulings, issued Jan. 30, affect the owner-trainers Marcos Zulueta, Juan Carlos Guerrero, and Silvio Martin as well as the owners Sean Mitchell and Amber Schrank. The rulings do not cite a reason for the decisions, but state that the licenses of all of the individuals have been “returned to good standing.”
