The California Horse Racing Board has filed a complaint with the board of stewards at Santa Anita Park seeking the disqualification of the horse Justify from his win in the 2018 Santa Anita Derby due to a post-race positive for scopolamine, the board said on Thursday.

Preakness will be 'Win and You're In' for Breeders' Cup Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After a couple of weeks of indecision, Attachment Rate has been confirmed as a starter for the 146th Kentucky Derby next Saturday.

“My mind was actually made up when he was cooling out after his last race,” in the Aug. 9 Runhappy Ellis Park Derby, trainer Dale Romans said Thursday morning from New York. “It just took a little arm-twisting to convince the owners to head that way. They’d been on the fence.”

Kentucky Downs handicapping contest offers seats to major tournaments

Cash prizes plus seats at the 2020 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge and 2021 National Horseplayers Championship will be at stake next month when Kentucky Downs offers handicapping contests on the last two cards of its six-day Runhappy meet.

Stand-alone online tournaments on Sept. 13 and 16 will be live-money events based primarily on turf-only racing from Kentucky Downs in south-central Kentucky, with turf races from Monmouth Park being optional events for the Sept. 13 tournament.

One day after Authentic had to have a work aborted through no fault of his own, he motored around Del Mar’s track early Tuesday morning in a demanding drill designed to have him on edge for the Kentucky Derby on Sept. 5 at Churchill Downs.

Authentic was given an official time of 1:38.60 for one mile under exercise rider Juan Ochoa, and he continued a bit farther on the gallop-out.

Racing commission allows Monmouth to pay out backlog of purses

Potts ruled off at Laurel for association with Vitali

Marcus Vitali has been suspended for a year by the Delaware Park stewards.

Wayne Potts, a trainer who has started horses across the Eastern seaboard this summer, has been ordered off the grounds of Laurel Park after racing officials there concluded that he was training horses on behalf of a trainer who is already banned at the Maryland track, according to Laurel’s top racing official and Potts.

Keeneland fall condition book released

Keeneland ran a five-day meet from July 8-12 without spectators.

Officials at Keeneland Racecourse on Thursday released the full condition book for its 17-day fall meet in October as well as the roster of supporting stakes for the Nov. 6-7 Breeders’ Cup.

Eight undercard stakes worth a total of $1 million will round out the two Breeders’ Cup dates, including the Grade 2, $200,000 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (formerly the Marathon) at 1 5/8 miles and the $150,000 Lafayette, a long dormant race to be run at seven furlongs.
