Knicks Go named World’s Best Racehorse of 2021

Knicks Go, winner of the Breeders' Cup Classic, will start his stud career at Taylor Made Farm.

Knicks Go has been crowned the World’s Best Racehorse of 2021 by Longines and the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.

Knicks Go reached an international rating of 129, highest in the world last year, through his performance in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Brad Cox trains Knicks Go for the Korea Racing Authority. The 6-year-old horse by Paynter out of Kosmo’s Buddy, by Outflanker, is scheduled to make his final start before his stallion career in the Pegasus World Cup on Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

Mistrial declared in Giannelli case after attorney tests positive for COVID-19

NEW YORK – COVID-19 on Monday temporarily upended the trial of Seth Fishman and Lisa Giannelli, who were among more than two dozen people connected to horse racing who were indicted in 2020 on charges of misbranding or adulterating drugs.

As the trial's second week began, testimony was delayed after it was revealed that Giannelli's trial attorney had tested positive for COVID-19 before the trial was to resume Monday.

Trainer Simmonds barred from entering horses at NYRA tracks

OZONE PARK, N.Y - Trainer Michael Simmonds is barred from entering horses at New York Racing Association tracks until further notice, pending an investigation by the New York State Gaming Commission, according to NYRA.

Simmonds had two horses scratched from Sunday’s card at Aqueduct by the stewards shortly after noon. New York Gaming Commission steward Braulio Baeza Jr. would not comment on the exact reason for the horses being scratched.

NYRA to review trainer Potts' stable, racing eligibility

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - In the wake of a series of violations and penalties incurred by trainer Wayne Potts, the New York Racing Association is determining whether to continue to allow him to stable and race at its three tracks, according to a NYRA spokesman.

On Friday, Potts and his assistant, Bonnie Lucas, were suspended 30 days by the New Jersey Racing Commission for “conduct detrimental to racing.” The suspension would coincide with the May 7 opening of the Monmouth Park meet and last through June 5.

Trainer Mark Glatt, Little Red Feather stable go separate ways

Beer Can Man trained last week for the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, but he failed to draw into the field.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Trainer Mark Glatt has parted with Little Red Feather Racing Stable. Six horses Glatt trained for the syndicate, including top turf sprinter Beer Can Man, are moving to other trainers.

Glatt informed Little Red Feather of his decision on Friday, for reasons Glatt declined to publicly specify. “I was asked (by Little Red Feather) to make a business decision that was extremely uncomfortable,” he said, adding the move “is unrelated to any horse or racing activity.”

Witness testifies that Fishman 'specialized in making product that wasn't testable'

NEW YORK – A jury on Friday heard a full day of testimony in the federal trial involving Seth Fishman and Lisa Giannelli, two of the more than two dozen people connected to horse racing indicted in 2020 on drug adulteration and misbranding charges.

The entire morning and most of the afternoon featured a second day of testimony from a woman who worked for Fishman at his Florida business, Equestology, for five years.

Judge dismisses Baffert's attempt to block NYRA ban; pre-suspension hearing to begin Monday

A federal judge in New York on Friday dismissed attempts by Bob Baffert to block an effort by the New York Racing Association to ban the trainer, ruling that NYRA’s decision to hold a hearing contemplating a ban resolved the trainers’ concerns about his due-process rights.

Popcorn Deelites, from the movie Seabiscuit, dies of colic at Old Friends Farm

Popcorn Deelites, best known for helping to bring Seabiscuit to life in the 2003 Oscar-nominated film, has died at Old Friends in Kentucky following complications from colic, the farm announced Thursday.

The 24-year-old gelding had been pensioned at the farm since 2005, alongside his sire, Afternoon Deelites.
