HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Confidence Game’s next stop on the Road to the Kentucky Derby is to be determined, but the winner of the Grade 2, $1 million Rebel at Oaklawn Park on Saturday could return to Arkansas or run back at his home track of Fair Grounds, trainer Keith Desormeaux said on Sunday.

Los Alamitos cancels Sunday program due to rain

Los Alamitos canceled a 10-race program for Sunday evening on race morning, citing the excessive rain in Southern California of recent days.

The program was scheduled to include two Quarter Horse stakes – the $35,000 Denim N Diamonds Handicap for fillies and mares at 400 yards, and the $87,750 Maiden Stakes at 350 yards.

The races will be rescheduled for the weekend of March 4-5, the track said in a statement.

Forte, Blazing Sevens lead field of 10 for Fountain of Youth

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Reigning Juvenile Champion Forte and Grade 1 winner Blazing Sevens, currently ranked second and third respectively in the latest edition of Daily Racing Form’s Derby Watch, were among a field of 10 3-year-olds drawn for next Saturday’s $400,000, Grade 2 Fountain of Youth on Saturday at Gulfstream Park.  

The important Kentucky Derby prep will be decided at 1 1/16 miles and will go as the finale on a 14-race program with first post at 11 a.m.

Del Mar to host 2024 Breeders' Cup

The 2024 Breeders’ Cup two-day event will be held at Del Mar, marking the third time the seaside track will have served as the host, the Breeders’ Cup announced on Thursday.

The selection of Del Mar for the 2024 event will create a two-year swing through Southern California, a location where the weather is generally mild in the fall. This year’s Breeders’ Cup will be held at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif., approximately 120 miles north of Del Mar, on Nov. 3-4.

Churchill Downs Inc. had record net income of $439.4 million in 2022, according to financial documents released on Wednesday afternoon, with roughly $200 million of that income coming from the sale of property at the former Calder Race Course in Florida.

Kentucky Commission reclassifies levamisole to a Class B drug

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission on Tuesday approved a reclassification of the anti-worming drug levamisole, one year after acknowledging that the drug was not classified under Kentucky’s rules.

The approval will make levamisole a Class B drug. The drug was declassified by the KHRC in 2015, which chose to make one of its metabolites, the stimulant aminorex, the subject of regulation, rather than the drug itself.

Asmussen becomes first trainer to hit 10,000 wins

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Steve Asmussen became the first trainer with 10,000 victories in North America on Monday, when Bet He’s Ready wired the field in the fifth race at Oaklawn Park.   

Asmussen, 57, already ranks as the all-time winningest trainer in North America. He set the record on Aug. 7, 2021 at Saratoga, when he saddled No. 9,446 to overtake Dale Baird.

Four Baffert horses listed under other trainers in Gotham nominations

A quartet of 3-year-olds who have made all their previous starts for trainer Bob Baffert are nominated to the Grade 3, $300,000 Gotham Stakes on March 4 at Aqueduct under the name of different trainers. Three of the horses are now listed as being trained by Tim Yakteen, one with Brittany Russell.
