The Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit has withdrawn cases it had previously been pursuing against the trainers Keri Brion and R. McLane Hendriks for positives in horses they trained for a metabolite of cocaine, the organization announced on Friday.

Bobby Ussery, in a 1957 photo, won the 1967 Kentucky Derby on Proud Clarion and finished first in 1968 aboard Dancer’s Image before that horse was disqualified for a drug positive.

Bobby Ussery, the Hall of Fame jockey whose exploits as a rider led to a particular portion of Aqueduct’s main track to be dubbed “Ussery’s Alley,” died earlier this week in Hollywood, Fla., due to congestive heart failure, according to his son Robert Ussery Jr. He was 88.

Joe Servis, a former rider, racing official, and father of John and Jason, dies at 92

Joe Servis, a former jockey and racing official and the father of Thoroughbred trainers John and Jason Servis, died Nov. 14 due to complications associated with bladder cancer, according to John Servis. He was 92.

Joe Servis rode races for 11 years, mostly in Delaware, Maryland, and West Virginia, according to John Servis. When he retired from riding, he became the East Coast manager for the Jockey’s Guild.

John Servis said that his father helped draw up the plans for a renovated jockeys’ room at Churchill Downs in the 1960s, something he was very proud of.

Natalia Lynch, a trainer based in New York, has been issued two separate two-year suspensions by an arbitrator for a positive test for altrenogest, an estrus suppressant, and the possession of a banned thyroid drug, according to a decision posted on the website of the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit.

Two weeks after he finished fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint, The Chosen Vron will wheel back to face California-breds in the $100,000 Cary Grant Stakes on Nov. 18. “He’s doing great, I’m going to come back in two weeks,” trainer Eric Kruljac said Sunday.

Dolce Zel’s next start is to be determined after a comeback win for new trainer Phil D’Amato in the $81,500 Kathryn Crosby Stakes on Saturday at Del Mar.

Dolce Zel broke through the gate before the start, but jockey Flavien Prat prevented her from running off. He got an assist from Dolce Zel herself, who sensed it was not time to go.

New York trainer Frank LaBoccetta dead at 85

Frank LaBoccetta, who trained a number of stakes winners on the New York circuit, including 1982 Wood Memorial winner Air Forbes Won, over a 34-plus-year training career, died on Nov. 1 from a heart attack, according to his wife, Theresa. He was 85.

Born in Brooklyn, LaBoccetta attended John Adams High School, only a few blocks away from Aqueduct. According to his biography in a New York Racing Association media guide, LaBoccetta got his first experience around horses in 1955 overseeing polo ponies for the Hall of Fame trainer Hollie Hughes.
