Miwa finished first and third in a pair of Kentucky Downs races in late summer.

Trainer Brendan Walsh will have three chances to win his fourth graded stakes of the Keeneland fall meet in the Grade 3, $350,000 Dowager on Sunday.

Opposing the Walsh trio in the Dowager, a 1 1/2-mile grass race for older fillies and mares, are two horses from the barn of trainer Joe Sharp, including Miwa, who would be favored if sufficient weight is given to her two races at Kentucky Downs in late August and early September.

Atras settles on Ballezzi Appreciation Mile for streaking Film Star

Barbara D. Livingston
Film Star has won two straight, earning 95 Beyer Speed Figures for both victories.

Trainer Rob Atras is still looking for the perfect spot to enter Film Star, but without such a race on the horizon, the $75,000 M.P. Ballezzi Appreciation Mile at Parx Racing on Tuesday will have to do.

“Ideally, you’d run back in New York, but there just wasn’t quite that race,” Atras said. “It really wasn’t there, so this was kind of a secondary thing, and it filled. It looks like a good spot. He’s trained well lately and he’s coming to the race good.”

Aussie Girl will come off the bench and return to turf in Sunday's Noble Damsel at Aqueduct.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – After a failed dirt experiment and some time off for bone bruising, Aussie Girl returns to the races and to turf in a seemingly wide-open renewal of the $150,000 Noble Damsel Stakes on Sunday at Aqueduct.

Cutting back, Himika likely to extend trend of winning favorites in Anoakia

Benoit Photo
Himika is likely to be the heavy favorite in Sunday's Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Small fields and short prices are recurring traits of the $85,000 Anoakia Stakes, a sprint for 2-year-old fillies that is run annually each fall at Santa Anita.

Only five runners are entered Sunday in the Anoakia. Unfortunately, that is normal. Average field size in the Anoakia is 5.25 since Santa Anita reinstalled dirt in late 2010. Another characteristic is the reliability of chalk. Anoakia favorites have won six of the last 10, including the last three.
