Zayas out for weekend after minor gate injury

Barbara D. Livingston Jockey Edgard Zayas has four wins from 79 starts so far at the Saratoga meet.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. − Jockey Edgard Zayas will be off his mounts through the weekend as a result of an injured toe he suffered in the starting gate when he rode Time to Dream to a fourth-place finish in the Grade 3 Lake George Stakes here on Aug. 1.

Zayas tore the toenail off on his right foot, an issue that required stitches. He was still experiencing pain this week and took off his mounts Wednesday and Thursday, and will also not ride Friday through Sunday.

Agent Tito Fuentes said the hope is for Zayas to return Aug. 13 or 14.

Zayas, riding his first full meet at Saratoga, has four wins from 79 mounts.
