Woodbine Mohawk Park: Analysis for Saturday 2/7

Kevin Plowcha|Feb 05, 2026
Mohawk Logo 1.5

Top Pick Stats: 61/203 (-$102.30)

Best Bets: 6/18 (-$13.60); Spot Plays: 8/19 ($3.80)

Best Bet: STONEBRIDGE HELIOS (Race 8)

Spot Play: ITS SATURDAY NIGHT (Race 9)

Early Pick-5: 1,2,4/5,7/5,6/4,5/5 $4.80

Late Pick-5: 3,4,7/3/4/6/2,5,8 $1.80

Race 1: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 3 RACES OR $60,000 (OS $91,500) LIFETIME. AE: 4 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER OPT. CLM. $60,000. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE.

(1) BLAZING CRUISER got a good drive from Davis last week when dropping from the Valedictory. Blue Bar got the jump on him, but was moving well in the stretch. (2) MAGICAL BET was a bit closer to the leaders who set a sharp pace last week. A different setup could see him a couple lengths closer to the win. (4) ZEBS KRAFTY dove to the inside in the stretch when room opened up, and he ended up dead-heating for second at a big price. Another patient drive could see him pass horses late.

Race 2: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 RACE (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) OR $9,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(5) COUNT ON GORD paced strongly through the wire in his second qualifier and now draws well for his first start of 2026. McNair getting the call should attract attention. (7) THE READY closed well in the stretch when racing from last. He was a sharp winner three back and gets a key driver change tonight. (2) CAPTAINS LEGACY had to work first over last week, but he didn’t fade too badly after taking that air. Tyler Jones is having a strong start to the season.

Race 3: CLAIMING HANDICAP $30,000 TO $40,000. ALLOWANCES FOR AGE & SEX. ENTER IN MULTIPLES OF $1,000.

(5) HF PANS SHADOW went a big first over trip last week and just missed in a three-across finish. That’s the kind of trip he has been working out lately. (6) SOMETIME SOMEWHERE took a lot more support last week and just got his neck up after following HF Pans Shadow on the outside. (2) JJ XAVIER was given a chance when Early Action moved to the outside after sitting in the pocket. He took advantage and finished a strong second. I think he needs more to go his way.

Race 4: NW $9,250 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $18,750 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $50,000.

(4) MIRACULOUS DESBI N didn’t get the best of trips last week and had to stop and start after Get Wings pulled in front of him. I would expect Louis Roy to work out a better journey tonight. (5) EARLY ACTION had a good trip last week, but found himself in traffic trouble after moving to the outside. I can see him getting in a stalking spot again this week. (8) RIPASSO took a step forward in his second start back and produced a nice second place finish. He should be passing horses late again.

Race 5: POP UP SERIES FINAL: STARTERS FOR PURSE OF $11,000 OR LESS IN L3 STARTS (WO $100,000 IN 2025 NE). AE: NW $40,000 IN 2025 (MIN 10 STARTS).

(5) CODE CRACKER has won four of his last five starts and has the post edge on his main rival. Expect him to be on the lead or sitting in the pocket. (8) TRICKY MCWICKY held off all challengers after getting to the lead. He is the main danger. (3) IT TAKES TWO has raced well in this series with two vastly different trips. His price will inflate because of the main duo.

Race 6: NW $12,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $31,500 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: OPT. CLM. $70,000. AE: NW $165,000 LIFETIME.

(7) GET WINGS tried to make a second move from the pocket last week to no avail. He gets his familiar pilot back in the bike tonight. I’ll look for a rebound effort. (3) JACK PANIC stepped up nicely last week with a strong second place finish after stalking the leaders. His gate speed makes him an obvious factor in a shorter field. (4) MAJOR PERRY N has yet to put in a bad race this year. I thought he was game when getting a check last week after also making two moves. I might be underrating him.

Race 7: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 1 RACE (WINNERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS 2 RACES) OR $9,000 LIFETIME. NO ALLOWANCES.

(3) HIRO HANOVER spotted the field at least a half dozen lengths when making an early miscue. He went a big trip in the back half, including swinging four wide, and was still making up ground at the wire. He looks like the horse to beat if he minds his manners. (4) CORONA SEELSTER got the fractions he wanted on the lead, but got picked off by the favorite in the late stages. He should be forwardly placed again. (6) SNOWPORT makes his 42nd career start as a maiden after just missing in his last two starts. He makes sense as an underneath use.

Race 8: NW $6,000 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $12,000 LAST 8 STARTS. AE: STARTERS FOR A PURSE OF $9,000 OR LESS LAST 3. AE: N/A $1,200 P/S IN 2025-26.

(4) STONEBRIDGE HELIOS was left stuck on the outside after Ginger Tree Finny blitzed to the front. He battled gamely and still held third. I expect improvement in his second start back. (3) LOGAN BEHOLD was better last week when dropping in class. He grinds well from off the pace. We know what (2) WHATCHULOOKIN AT is capable of when he is at his best. Last week was not at that level when dropping in class. I’ll commit to using him underneath again.

Race 9: OPEN.

(6) ITS SATURDAY NIGHT didn’t race in last week’s Open, but don’t let that distract you from the fact that he was completely pace compromised last week when racing first over. I think getting away from the rail will help him. (4) BRUE HANOVER got everything his own way in that race and still only won by a head. He has won his last three starts as the favorite, but I think value can be found elsewhere. (5) JABBERWOCKY got a confidence boosting win in a lower level last week. I don’t know what kind of trip he will be able to work out, but he still has the gate speed to sit close.

Race 10: 5 YEAR OLDS & YOUNGER, NW 2 RACES OR $30,000 (OS $44,500) LIFETIME. AE: 4 YR OLDS N/A $1,200 P/S IN 2025-26.

(8) MOVING ON OVER has more than enough gate speed to get himself into a stalking spot, just as he did last week. The change of tactics worked well. (5) LELAND HANOVER showed decent ability at two in limited starts, and his morning prep off the bench was just fine. I’ll count on the new shooter getting a big piece to kick off his sophomore season. (2) BETTORTHINGSAHEAD eventually found his best stride on debut and was able to track down the leader in the stretch to get the job done. I’m curious if he can step forward this week.

Race 11: NW $2,500 LAST 4 STARTS OR NW $8,500 LAST 8 STARTS.

(8) BEACHIN LINDY has been better in his last three starts and was pacing up a storm to pass tired horses in the stretch last week. If he can work out a trip, he could pull off the upset. (5) CALL ME IT was better last week when given a chance near the lead. He draws well this week and could stalk again. (1) LARCENY gets an inside draw this week which could allow him to be slightly closer. If he finds a helmet to work off of, he could get into contention.
