HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Will Take It rallied up the rail for a head win over Woodcourt in the $150,000 Fifth Season, the first stakes race of the postponed classic meet that opened Thursday at Oaklawn Park. It was another three-quarters of a length back in third to American Law. Oaklawn began racing in December with a holiday meet that wrapped up in early January. The track planned a three-week break before resuming racing with the classic meet Jan. 30, but a winter storm system led to the cancellation of racing last week. For the postponed opener, sunny skies and temperatures reaching 60 degrees greeted patrons. There were, however, reminders of the ice, sleet, and snow that had shut down operations. A mountain of snow plowed off the parking lot and set aside was just slowly starting to melt away.    Will Take It ($11.80) settled in third along the rail in the Fifth Season – which is a reference to the meet at Oaklawn. Woodcourt set fractions of 24.08 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.77  for the half-mile, and 1:11.79 for six furlongs while under pressure from 3-5 favorite Speed King. :: Live racing action at Oaklawn Park! DRF Past Performances and Picks are available now. Will Take It advanced on the final turn, joined the leaders into the stretch, and edged Woodcourt near the wire in a tight battle. Following the race, the rider of Woodcourt claimed foul against Will Take It, but the stewards did not change the order of finish. Will Take It covered a mile over a fast track in 1:38.13. Will Take It is a son of Tapit who races for his breeder, Whisper Hill Farm, and Willis Horton Racing. Ricardo Santana Jr. was aboard Will Take It for trainer Dallas Stewart. The Fifth Season scratched down to a field of five with the defections of Pony Express, Seize the Night, Komorebino Omoide, and Runaway Again. Racing resumes Friday with the running of the Grade 3, $1 million Southwest Stakes, which is a Kentucky Derby points race. It will share a card with the $300,000 Martha Washington, which carries points for the Kentucky Oaks. There is a special post of 11:30 a.m. Central.  :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
