He is a prolific winner, won a stakes at Golden Gate Fields way back in 2023, and is having a fine year as a 9-year-old.

The gelding See Through It remains effective on the Southern California daytime circuit, particularly at Los Alamitos, where he starts in an allowance race for California-breds at 6 1/2 furlongs on Sunday.

The allowance race is the feature on a nine-race program, the last day of the track’s two-week September Thoroughbred meeting. The daytime circuit moves to Santa Anita on Friday for that track’s six-week autumn meeting.

See Through It, trained by Genaro Vallejo for Johnny Taboada, won twice at the Los Alamitos daytime meeting in the summer, but was beaten in two starts at Del Mar.

On Sept. 7 at Del Mar, See Through It finished second by two lengths in a starter allowance for $20,000 claimers at 6 1/2 furlongs. See Through It closed from 10th of 11 to finish two lengths behind favored Known Idea.

In Sunday’s race, See Through It drew the outside post in a field of seven, all entered to be claimed for $20,000 in the race’s optional-claiming provision. Taboada and Vallejo claimed See Through It for $20,000 from a similar race at Los Alamitos on July 5. In that race, See Through It closed from third to win by a nose.

See Through It has won 21 of 66 races, including starts in 1,000-yard races at the Los Alamitos evening meeting.

On the one-mile track used for daytime racing at Los Alamitos, See Through It has won 8 of 12 starts.

“He’s an old horse and he tries hard every time,” Vallejo said. “He’s a racehorse.”

The recent loss at Del Mar surprised Vallejo.

“I thought he was going to be the horse to beat,” Vallejo said. “He broke a step slow and he was a little far back. He ran a big race.”

On Sunday, See Through It will be chasing runners such as Supernal, a recent claim by trainer Ron Ellis, and possibly Its a Cinch, who won an allowance race here last December but was 11th in the same race as See Through It on Sept. 7.

Supernal won an allowance/optional claimer for statebreds here in June, racing near the front throughout.

Vallejo, who has won 429 career races with all breeds through Thursday, also starts Geezer, who is winless in eight starts since an allowance race at 1,000 yards at Los Alamitos in March. Geezer was fourth of seven after a wide trip in a starter allowance for $25,000 claimers at Los Alamitos on Sept. 12.

“He’s going to sit right off of” the pace, Vallejo said.

At Del Mar on Aug. 27, Geezer was sixth by 1 1/4 lengths in a $12,500 claimer at six furlongs.

“When he ran for Del Mar, he broke a step slow and only got beat a length,” Vallejo said. “He ran against some nice horses. It was a fast time.

“He’s a horse that runs good for me.”
