Undefeated juvenile Caps and Carnage getting a break

Caps and Carnage, the $2,500 yearling purchase who is undefeated in five starts in four states this year as a 2-year-old, is on vacation at a farm in Utah, trainer Dru Hall said earlier this week.

Caps and Carnage will be “turned out for a couple of months” before resuming training with the prospect of a trip to Sunland Park in the winter, Hall said.

Owned by Candice Davis, Caps and Carnage has won five starts by a combined 57 1/2 lengths. In his last start, Caps and Carnage won the $50,000 Gold Rush Futurity at six furlongs by 20 3/4 lengths at Arapahoe Park in Colorado on Aug. 16.

Caps and Carnage was turned out after officials with Cheyenne Park in Wyoming announced that the track would not be open for its first season of racing this fall. Cheyenne Park officials had planned to run a $100,000 race at 6 1/2 furlongs for 2-year-olds this fall. The track is scheduled to open in the fall of 2027.

Hall had mentioned the Cheyenne Park race as an option for Caps and Carnage.

A California-bred by Dads Caps, Caps and Carnage won a futurity trial in his debut at Turf Paradise in April and has since won four consecutive stakes – the $46,850 Turf Paradise Open Spring Futurity at five furlongs by 1 1/2 lengths on May 2, the $40,000 Sue Wallis Memorial Futurity at five furlongs at Wyoming Downs on June 28, and the $49,500 King County Express Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs at Emerald Downs in Washington state on July 19.

Caps and Carnage recently underwent precautionary x-rays that Hall said revealed no abnormalities.

“I think he’s got a great future,” Hall said. “He’s super fast and done everything we’ve asked him to do and with ease in some of them.”

Hall questioned whether Caps and Carnage will be as effective at longer distances, but said the colt is thriving away from the track.

“I’m not sure if he’ll like the mile deal,” Hall said. “Since I got him back here, he’s starting to really grow.”
