Strategic Risk still on course for Southwest after work

Strategic Risk, the winner of both the Smarty Jones Stakes at Oaklawn and the In Reality division of the Florida Sire Stakes at Gulfstream Park, worked Wednesday at Oaklawn and remains on course for a start in the Southwest, trainer Mark Casse said.

The Grade 3, $1 million Southwest carries points for the Kentucky Derby. It will be run Jan. 31 and entries will be taken on Sunday.

Strategic Risk worked five furlongs on a track rated good in 1:02.40.

Silent Tactic, who ran second in the Smarty Jones, also worked Wednesday at Oaklawn. He went five furlongs in 1:01.60 and also remains on deck for the Southwest, said Casse.

Casse’s candidates for the $300,000 Martha Washington on the same card were also on the work tab Wednesday. Counting Stars went five furlongs in 1:01.20 and Search Party went the same distance in 1:01. The Martha Washington carries points for the Kentucky Oaks.
