Someday Lady wins Glen Todd Fantasy; Mount Doom takes Ascot Graduation

George Cottrell|Oct 13, 2024

Two 1/9 favorites dominated at Hastings on Saturday with Someday Lady winning the Glen Todd Fantasy Stakes by 2 1/4 lengths and Mount Doom winning by 4 3/4 lengths in the Ascot Graduation.

Both races were 1 1/16 miles with $50,000 purses.

Someday Lady races for Jeff Sengara and is trained by Cindy Krasner. The filly covered the distance in 1:45.98 after racing on a slow pace under Kerron Khelawan. Sailing Force was along in time to be second, a half-length in front of Another Last Dance, who was third. Each of the 2-year-olds in Saturday's stakes races were racing beyond 6 1/2 furlongs for the first time.

"The moment we laid eyes on her, I knew that this filly was going to run all day," Sengara said. "She just looked like a route horse. I think she sprinted (well) because she's just a wonderful filly that's going to give you everything she's got."

Mount Doom and Counter Cat raced in tandem for the first 7 1/2 furlongs before the winner found another gear and drew away under jockey Antonio Reyes. Counter Cat held the second spot and it was another 1 1/4 lengths back to Kris's Gold, who ran third.

After contesting splits that were considerably faster than in the Fantasy, Mount Doom stopped the timer in 1:45.57 in winning the Ascot Graduation over a fast strip.
