Shaken Goin On seeks streak extender in Mildred Vessels Handicap
Since she finished third by a half-length in the $100,000 Mildred Vessels Handicap at Los Alamitos last September, Shaken Goin On has been perfect, winning five starts at the California track as the odds-on favorite each time.
Shaken Goin On is part of a field of 10 in Saturday’s Mildred Vessels Handicap for fillies and mares at 400 yards. She will not be an odds-on favorite but has an excellent chance to continue the winning streak despite the presence of the outstanding 3-year-old filly Beuteeful and Rockin With Energy, winner of the $100,000 Charger Bar Handicap in January.
The winner receives a berth to the $700,000 Champion of Champions at 440 yards on Dec. 12 at Los Alamitos, the sport’s leading race for 3-year-olds and older horses.
Shaken Goin On has won 12 of 19 starts for owners James Sills and AA Horse Racing and trainer Eddie Willis. The Mildred Vessels Handicap will be her first start since a nose win at 3-10 over Bold N Beautiful in the $75,000 Abigail Kawananakoa Stakes for fillies and mares at 350 yards on June 12.
Justine Klaiber, the leading Quarter Horse rider at Los Alamitos going into this weekend, has the mount.
Shaken Goin On’s winning streak includes the $158,600 Southern California Derby at 400 yards last December. She has won 5 of 7 career starts at 400 yards, including the $430,000 Los Alamitos Oaks in March 2025.
Bold N Beautiful followed her narrow loss in the Kawananakoa Stakes with a win against males as the 9-10 favorite in the $43,010 Los Alamitos Challenge Championship at 440 yards on Aug. 1, her fourth win in 14 starts. While Bold N Beautiful was sharp at 440 yards, she has only won once in 10 career starts at 400 yards.
Beuteeful had a three-race winning streak end with a third by 3 1/4 lengths to Toby Sis in the $534,426 Rainbow Oaks at 440 yards on July 11 at the Downs at Albuquerque. In March, Beuteeful won the richest race of her career in the $407,190 Los Alamitos Oaks at 400 yards for trainer Kristen Watanabe.
Rockin With Energy, a troubled ninth in the 2025 Mildred Vessels, drew the outside post of 10 on Saturday for her first start since finishing ninth of 10 in the $35,000 Denim N Diamonds Stakes for fillies and mares at 350 yards on Feb. 21.
Rockin With Energy, trained by Paul Jones, was eliminated from contention in the Denim N Diamonds when she broke slowly and lost her running path. Rockin With Energy won the Charger Bar from post 9 and should be aided by an outside draw on Saturday.
